Senior UX Designer (Senior Consultant, Experience & Design)

Fearless is seeking a Senior UX Designer to support a large-scale federal workforce training and learning management program. This role is responsible for designing intuitive, accessible, and user-centered digital experiences that support training delivery, system navigation, and overall platform usability for a diverse national user base.

The Senior UX Designer will apply Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles to understand user needs, identify pain points, and translate insights into effective design solutions. This role works closely with stakeholders, developers, and instructional design teams to ensure that system enhancements and training interfaces are both functional and easy to use.

We are looking for someone who is thoughtful, user-focused, and experienced in designing

for complex systems-someone who can balance usability, accessibility, and technical

constraints while improving the overall user experience.

At Fearless, the Senior Consultant combines expertise in Content Design, Content Strategy, Product Design, Service Design, User Research, and UX leadership. This role will possess the necessary skills at an advanced level of proficiency for setting the vision, strategy, and systems that guide cross-functional design teams in creating scalable, impactful, and user-centered solutions.The role requires a balance of strategic foresight, design mentorship, and hands-on expertise to deliver high-quality products and services that meet user, customer, and organizational needs.

Your Responsibilities in this Role:

  • Conduct user research activities including interviews, usability testing, and analysis of user behavior to inform design decisions.

  • Apply Human-Centered Design (HCD) methodologies to identify user needs, pain points, and opportunities for improvement across the LMS and training platforms.

  • Design user interfaces and user experiences for web-based applications, ensuring usability, consistency, and accessibility.

  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and user flows to communicate design concepts and support iterative development.

  • Ensure compliance with accessibility standards, including Section 508 requirements, across all user interfaces and digital content.

  • Collaborate with business analysts, developers, and instructional design teams to translate requirements into user-centered design solutions.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, providing design input during backlog refinement, sprint planning, and reviews.

  • Incorporate user feedback and usability findings into continuous design improvements.

  • Support the development of design standards, style guides, and reusable UI components.

  • Evaluate existing system interfaces and recommend enhancements to improve usability and user satisfaction.

  • Ensure alignment between user experience design and training objectives, including ease of navigation and content accessibility

  • Create and maintain design system components for the application web ecosystem; ensure consistency with CMS branding and accessibility standards.

  • Collaborate with ISD, content authors, and platform engineers to translate user needs into implementable UI/UX requirements

Place of Performance & Travel Requirements

  • While this role is primarily remote, the individual must be available to attend in-person customer meetings at the client's headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland, as needed.

  • The individual in this role will support approximately three in-person events annually within the greater Baltimore metropolitan area. These events range from one to five days in length and require full on-site participation.

Work Experience

PROJECT SPECIFIC SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in UI/UX design, Human-Centered Design, or related disciplines.

  • Proven experience applying HCD methodologies, including user research, usability testing, and iterative design.

  • Experience designing for web-based applications, including complex or enterprise systems.

  • Proven experience applying accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.x and Section 508 requirements.

  • Experience creating wireframes, prototypes, and user flows using industry-standard design tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD, or similar).

  • Experience working within Agile environments and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS), training platforms, or workforce development systems is highly desirable.

  • Strong understanding of user behavior, interaction design, and usability principles.

  • Experience conducting usability testing and translating findings into actionable design improvements.

  • Ability to balance user needs, business requirements, and technical constraints in design solutions.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain design decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Design, Psychology, Information Systems, or related field is required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or during meetings.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to client sites or company meetings, which may involve driving or flying.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in-person, requiring clear speech, listening, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to move within an office environment, including reaching for files, using office equipment, and occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds).

The salary range for this position is:

Minimum Salary: $96,132

Salary Midpoint: $124,971

Maximum Salary: $162,462

Hiring Range for Role: $96,132 - $113,000

*This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance criteria.
