The KLA Global Workplace Services (GWS) team is passionate about enabling the business goals and company culture through the delivery of workplace environments and services that foster teamwork, innovation and productivity. Our team runs a worldwide portfolio of over 3 million square feet, 135 sites and over 12,000 employees. In addition to ensuring the workspace and manufacturing facilities operate seamlessly, this group also provides employee and site services, such as cafeteria, transportation, security, and safety. The team is responsible for all construction and site improvement work to enable the business needs as well as align with the financial requirements.

Environmental Health and Safety Internship Overview

If you are currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences/Engineering, or a closely related field, and are interested in working in an exciting, collaborative environment, we want you to join our Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team.

This internship offers valuable opportunities to work alongside EHS professionals on a diverse range of technical projects. The main goals include improving workplace safety and health, fostering environmental responsibility, and advancing sustainability initiatives. Interns will gain practical experience by participating in EHS initiatives that positively impact employee health and safety within engineering and research operations.

As an Intern you will:

As an Environmental Health and Safety Intern, you will be actively involved in a variety of tasks that support the organization's commitment to workplace safety, environmental protection, and sustainability. Your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Safety Program Evaluation and Training - Part of your role involves evaluating existing safety programs and updating training materials as needed. This ensures that all staff receive current and accurate information regarding safety practices.
  • Laboratory and Cleanroom Safety - You will provide Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) support for internal engineering and research and development projects. This includes assisting teams with safety considerations throughout project lifecycles. In addition, you will perform regular facility inspections of cleanrooms and laboratories to ensure that safety requirements are consistently met.
  • Data Collection and System Improvement - Improving data collection methods is a key aspect of the internship. Your efforts will help expand the scope and effectiveness of the Environmental, Health and Safety Enterprise system, supporting informed decision-making and enhanced safety management.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting - You will compile and analyze EHS data, prepare reports, and present your findings during team meetings. Accurate data analysis contributes to ongoing improvements in safety and environmental performance.
  • Waste Reduction and ESG Support - Identifying opportunities to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste streams is an important responsibility. Your contributions in this area will support business Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals and objectives.
  • Incident Investigation - As an intern, you will participate in incident investigations, including collecting relevant data, analyzing findings, and assisting with root cause identification. This process is vital for preventing future incidents and elimination of workplace safety risks.
  • Workplace Safety Promotion - Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will help organize safety campaigns, events, and awareness programs. These initiatives foster a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
  • Technical Communication - Effective communication is essential in this role. You will be expected to convey technical information clearly and concisely, both in written and verbal formats, to ensure understanding across various audiences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and a passion for contributing to workplace health and safety and protection of the environment.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Sciences/Engineering, or related field.
  • Foundational knowledge and coursework in Environmental, Health and Safety studies.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse teams to solve problems and implement solutions.
  • Self-starters who are results oriented, resourceful, analytical, innovative, and intellectually curious.
