Description

Senior Cost Estimator (Aerospace & Defense)

An experienced Aerospace and Defense Cost Estimator develops detailed, accurate, and compliant cost proposals for complex projects, covering labor, materials, and overhead. Key responsibilities include analyzing Request for Proposals (RFPs) and engineering blueprints, conducting cost-benefit/risk analyses, and ensuring compliance with FAR/CAS regulations.

The Senior Cost Estimator is responsible for providing high-level cost analysis, developing detailed cost models, and preparing proposals for aerospace and defense programs (e.g., NASA, DoD). This role requires deep expertise in manufacturing processes, financial modeling, and regulatory compliance to support competitive bidding and long-term business strategy.

Key Responsibilities



  • Cost Analysis & Proposal Development: Develop detailed cost estimates (WBS, labor, material, overhead) using quantitative models and historical data.
  • Engineering Collaboration: Partner with engineering, purchasing, and manufacturing teams to interpret CAD models, blueprints, and Statement of Work (SOW) requirements for accurate cost modeling.
  • Government Compliance: Ensure all estimates comply with FAR, DFARS, CAS, and Truth in Negotiations Act (TINA) regulations.
  • Risk & Economic Analysis: Conduct cost-benefit analysis, risk assessments, and "what-if" analyses to determine appropriate financial margins.
  • Reporting: Present cost breakdowns, Basis of Estimates (BOEs), and proposal strategies to senior management and customers.



Required Skills and Qualifications



  • Experience: 5+ years of cost estimating experience in the aerospace or defense industry.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of aerospace manufacturing, CNC machining, and technical drawing interpretation.
  • Software: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex modeling.
  • Certifications: Certified Cost Estimator/Analyst (CCEA) or equivalent is a plus.
