Primary Duties



  • This position will be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing fiber plant for both Installs and Repairs within the Field Operations I&R group
  • Reviewing and interpreting work orders, circuit diagrams and following departmental standard practices
  • Reviewing and analyzing complex schematic drawings to determine work to be done and sequence of tasks
  • Uses various test and power equipment, and hand tools to identify and isolate service issues from the Central Office through the outside network plant including within the customer premise
  • Responsible for installation and repair of fiber to the Business services
  • Install and repair video, voice, and data services for strategic, large, and general businesses
  • Performs installation and repair functions for Broadband service and WIFI Hotspots
  • Must be skilled in the turn-up and maintenance of routers, bridges, hubs, access points, and other CPE elements used in data networking
  • Performs installation and repair of Static IP, IP assignment, and related management
  • Responsible for installation and repair of wired and wireless networking
  • Various business services and features can be involved, such as hunting, Line/Number Porting, etc.
  • May install fiber connections in the central office and/or fiber connections in the fiber environment
  • Will be required to work on various system power components including but not limited to: batteries, power supplies, and inverters
  • May be required to install, turn-up, repair, and maintain MDU ONT in various locations including but not limited to: outside plant and on customer premise
  • Turn-up FTTH OLT network elements Turn-up FTTH PONS from CO to FDH
  • Repair and maintain FTTH network elements and links
  • Responsible for the permanent repair of cut and damaged cables through fiber splicing procedures
  • Responsible for installation and repair of fiber from Central Office to Premise
  • Receives and interprets repair and install assignments using a tablet and/or laptop computer
  • Repairs Fiber conductors in aerial, buried, underground cable environments as well as customer owned inside wire
  • Responsible for Fiber No Light repair
  • Responsible for B-wire process and repair
  • Adheres to all Company safety standards and protocols
  • Interfaces with repair center technicians and other support groups to resolve customer problems
  • Utilizes various test and power equipment, and hand tools to identify, isolate and install service issues in the outside network from the Central Office to the customer premise
  • May be required to be dispatched on repairs and installations of residential High Speed Internet and Video services in the network


Experience/Background



  • Demonstrated experience in the installation/repair of business communication and data systems to include but not limited to phone systems, voice mail platforms, and office LAN's
  • Demonstrated experience in the installation or repair of VOIP systems
  • Demonstrated experience in customer premise inside wire repair and replacement
  • Demonstrated experience in use of test equipment and interpretation of test results
  • Demonstrated experience in the repair of High Speed Internet and video services
  • Demonstrated experience in an assignment requiring significant customer interaction
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Demonstrated experience in use of a PC and desktop applications
  • Demonstrated experience with wired and wireless networking


Prerequisites



  • Experience in test equipment that isolates and locates outside plant cable trouble
  • Experience in customer contact position
  • Pole climbing
  • Knowledge of telephony wiring and the ability to perceive differences in wiring color
  • Physical Requirements; able to lift heavy loads up to 85 lbs.
  • Safety Requirements: safety shoes; weight restriction policy applies
  • Satisfactory performance rating
  • Satisfactory attendance record in last twelve months
  • Knowledge of Company products and services a plus
  • Knowledge of volt/ohm meters and other various pieces of test equipment
  • Climbs poles and drives company vehicle
  • May be required to cross train others

  • Work location: various
  • Works in all types of weather
  • Works in all types of customer environments
  • May work 8-hour or 10-hour tours - including non-traditional tours: May work day, evening, night or weekend tours, overtime, emergency callouts, weekends and holidays
  • Climbs poles in order to perform repair work on aerial cable facilities
  • Must be trained and/or certified in safe pole climbing
  • May work aloft for extended periods of time
  • May be required to quality for #10,000 GVW CDL Certification
