The Opportunity

We are looking to fill a role leading the technical architecture and development of major components of our Guidewire Claims platform. Expectations include splitting time between architecting solutions, hands on configuring and development of complex capabilities and directing the technical configuration work of others. The role will work closely with the IT leadership team, Product Owners, and our vendor partners from requirements through rollout.

As the Technical Lead specializing in Claims, you will:

  • Define application architecture standards and design patterns necessary for HSB to implement its Claims Processes on Guidewire Platform
  • Establish development guidelines and design / code / configuration verification and validation processes
  • Work closely with the senior technical resources from other employees and external partners, to interpret and translate business requirements into a solution technical designs.
  • Actively participate in configuration of the Claims solution. Completing critical configuration activities and solving the most complex problems.
  • Analyzes complex technical or systems problems; designs and implements effective solutions.
  • Work with technical staff to understand problems with software and develops specifications for improvements and enhancements.
  • Take a leadership role in developing technical scope, approach and implementation estimates.
  • Collaborates with the business to ensure proper understanding of the functional needs and how they translate into solution designs.
  • Develop overall application architecture and technical design deliverables for the Claim modules.
  • Engage in the assignment of work to development team resources, ensuring effective transition of knowledge, design assumptions and development expectations.
  • Establish processes that will facilitate the development of an integrated solution by disparate resources (employees and contractors) that will work from different locations.
  • Estimate effort needed to implement system / integration requirements
  • Design solutions, define application components and their integration with new or existing systems to support business needs
  • Align application components with the platform architecture and meet application performance specifications
  • Ensure that common architecture and design goals - Performance, Modularity, Reliability, Maintainability, Reusability, Upgradability, Internationalization and Accessibility - are met while conforming with optimization of delivery and operational cost goals
  • Align development processes with the agile delivery model in place at HSB (MR Essentials)
  • Provide guidance for the execution, backlog prioritization and delivery of program from solution architecture and technical design perspective
  • Identify and addresses functionality and data issues that may affect application integrity
  • Perform Design Code Reviews Ensuring the end solution is implemented as per business expectation
  • Spearhead Conformance Reviews.
  • Define and execute quality controls for Guidewire code and configuration artifacts specific to configuring GW Claims
  • Participate in annual Target Architecture development processes to evergreen platform and maintain technical, operational and process currency

Successful candidates will possess the following skills/capabilities:

  • 5+ years of experience with Guidewire Claims as an technical lead is required. Experience driving a minimum of two (or more) large and complex implementations on Guidewire Claims is greatly preferred.
  • 9+ years in the P & C insurance industry with excellent knowledge of core systems in Commercial Specialty lines of business is preferred
  • 10+ years in Software Development / Transformation Projects involving Guidewire or Industry standard packages highly preferred
  • 8+ years in GW Claims Configuration, Customization and integration with 3rd party applications
  • Strong experience with product lifecycle maintenance
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal with technical and business groups
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching skills
  • Results oriented with a track record of delivery
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to influence peers and colleges
  • Sound knowledge of agile software development and methodology
  • Pronounced analytical and conceptual capabilities coupled with the ability to present complex situations in a clear and precise way
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent work experience) preferably in engineering / IT
