Job Description

We have an opening for a Senior Electronics Technologist to support the Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST), within the Global Security (GS) Directorate. The Device Engineering and Fielding Team (DEFT) within NEST is responsible for building and fielding training aids, preparedness, and response activities. In this role, you will design and build electronic assemblies, integrate, and install complex electronic components as well as provide support for field training deployments. This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

You will

  • Provide advanced electronic technical support to engineering, scientific, and technical staff to plan and conduct experiments at LLNL and other off-site locations.
  • Coordinate and communicate directly with programmatic stakeholders.
  • Design, maintain, assemble, and disassemble complex electrical components and systems using established work control processes.
  • Develop and document parameters, procedures, and safety documentation.
  • Set up, conduct and tear down experiments.
  • Maintain, test, calibrate and troubleshoot field support equipment.
  • Conduct on-site and off-site routine safety and security inspections.
  • Utilize advanced methods ofdata collection equipment such as oscilloscopes, sensing transformers, and digital voltmeters.
  • Perform under minimal supervision and limited administrative authority in production and fabrication of electronic assemblies and devices.
  • Lead the electronics team which includes training and mentoring colleagues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.
  • Associate degree in electronics, computer science, electro-optics technology or equivalent combination of education and experience in a technical or engineering field.
  • Advanced understanding of electronic design, manufacture, modification, and troubleshooting of High Voltage circuits.
  • Advanced understanding of High Voltage fire-sets.
  • Ability to program microcontrollers.
  • Advanced knowledge of electronic sensors and integration into electrical systems.
  • Experience utilizing and generating 3D models, and 2D detailed drawings.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, feedback and presentation skills sufficient to develop and report data, and to work successfully with a multidisciplinary team in a highly collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work effectively handling multiple assignments concurrently.
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally in support of offsite experimental test campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive a vehicle greater than 10,000lbs GVW.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience leading teams on field deployments.
  • Experience with Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD.

Pay Range

$52.23 - $63.97 Hourly

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
