What Your Job Will Be Like

Our team is seeking an experienced R&D Computer Engineer that is fluent in LabVIEW to join our dynamic team.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Design, maintain, and oversee tester SW solutions which meet requirements for NG component testers
  • Deliver documentation to support software (SD, CD, TK, AM) and key project artifacts (MP, AF, LD, TK)
  • Collect key SW data to support engineers during development, troubleshooting, qualification, and other intermediary activities
  • Collaborate and provide regular project updates to PRT, project leads, and project manager
  • Communicate effectively with team members to maintain awareness of expected processes and procedures
  • Attend weekly software team meetings
  • Participate in technical code reviews
  • Assist and support interdisciplinary engineers during tester integration
  • Participate in computer builds, networking, periphery interconnections, and other physical computer configurations
  • Communicate with Cyber Security and our Corporate Computing Help Des (CCHD)
  • Ensure tester design and functionality while conforming to security controls

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range

$117,500 - $235,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Qualifications We Desire

The ideal R&D S&E Computer Engineer candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

  • Graduate degree in Computer Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
  • Demonstrated ability to execute and deliver technical work products with application of appropriate rigor and pedigree documentation (design/code reviews, technical oversight/approvals, project team concurrence, artifact generation, etc.).
  • Experience in computer systems design and software development for real-time and embedded processing systems, distributed processing systems, or real-time client server implementations.
  • Familiarity with hardware/software requirements generation for verification, validation and qualification.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multi-disciplinary team setting for a common purpose.

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

  • Experience:
    • Designing and developing software solutions in LabVIEW to meet tester requirements
    • Maintaining software as required to ensure uptime of the NG production floor testers
    • Providing software solutions during tester implementation and other troubleshooting activities
    • Contributing to hardware selections on tester projects
    • Programming Python, and C#
  • Ability to:
    • Create, contribute, and deliver documentation for the tester Maintenance Plan, Operating Procedure, Software Documentation, and other related articles.
    • Release drawings to the Image Management System (PRIME)
    • Work within and maintain accepted team applications for software development, documentation, code repositories, share points, etc.
    • Utilize common team practices for software development, code reviews, version management, traceability, modifying tester environments, etc.
About Our Team

This team is responsible for enabling the acquisition of neutron generator performance data. Our vision is to "acquire hi-fidelity test data to enable high consequence decisions." Our mission is "delivering exemplary test solutions in the national interest." We define, design, build, and qualify automated test equipment used to support neutron generator S&T, development, production, shelf life, and surveillance testing. Continuously improving tester requirements, tester standardization, test fidelity, tester capability, and delivery times are some of our core values. We also provide on-going engineering support of the existing tester fleet.

Posting Duration

Security Clearance

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
