This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at Towne Centre Drive (San Diego, CA) and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Senior Epic Report Developer partners with stakeholders across the organization to gather requirements, design, develop, and support enterprise wide reporting and analytics solutions. This role is responsible for translating complex business and clinical needs into high quality reports, dashboards, and data extracts using Epic and enterprise reporting tools. The Senior Developer works independently on complex initiatives, provides technical leadership, and serves as a trusted analytics consultant to end users and cross functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with business, clinical, and operational stakeholders to gather, analyze, and translate reporting requirements into technical solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, and implement enterprise reports, dashboards, ad hoc requests, and data extracts from Epic and other enterprise database sources.
  • Write, optimize, and maintain moderately complex to advanced SQL queries using enterprise data models, views, and stored procedures.
  • Develop and maintain technical specifications, design documentation, and supporting artifacts throughout the reporting lifecycle.
  • Use enterprise reporting and analytics tools (e.g., Epic Clarity, Reporting Workbench, Business Objects, Power BI, Tableau) to deliver scalable reporting solutions.
  • Independently manage and deliver complex reporting and analytics projects with minimal supervision.
  • Conduct complex analytics and data analysis critical to organizational decision making.
  • Triages intake of data requests and seek understanding of technical requirements.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to users on data interpretation, reporting capabilities, and analytic best practices.
  • Lead and facilitate technical and design discussions, including cross functional meetings related to reporting and analytics initiatives.
  • Support production reporting environments, including issue triage, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Perform data validation, testing, and quality audits to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate testing and user validation of new or enhanced reports; develop exception and error reports as needed and obtain formal user sign off.
  • Follow established change control and release management processes to migrate reporting solutions from development/test to production.
  • Track, document, and facilitate resolution of reporting related technical issues.
  • Maintain reporting catalogs and adhere to internal data governance standards and processes.
  • Create and maintain both technical and end user documentation.

  • Follow team development standards, methodologies, and best practices for specification, implementation, testing, change management, distribution, and documentation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Nine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience/training. Related experience: Epic reporting and analytics in acute care and ambulatory care. SQL and experience with a range of query tools such as Oracle, SAS, Crystal Reports, Business Objects, Microsoft SQL, Tableau.

  • Broadly encompassing or highly in-depth knowledge of 1-2 areas of focus in clinical informatics specialty areas. Knowledge of controlled terminology, clinical workflows, user interface optimization, clinical decision support, rules development, data integration and mining, clinical ontologies and adoption of technology.

  • In-depth knowledge of all relevant clinical informatics software and systems, and of the highly complex concepts, principles, policies, methodologies, techniques, best practices, regulations, and standards practices involved with patient care and electronic medical data management in the UC health care system.

  • Advanced organizational and project management skills, with the ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule.

  • Advanced interpersonal communications skills, to convey highly technical information and instructions to all levels of clinical users in a clear and concise manner, to provide technical support, and to develop and deliver training materials as needed.

  • Ability to apply advanced problem-resolution skills to highly complex issues, quickly diagnose problems, and develop, test, and implement appropriate and effective solutions in a timely manner.

  • Advanced healthcare analytical skills using SQL and expertise in documentation and reporting, with the ability to apply metrics, design and run queries, collect and analyze performance data, and produce sophisticated reports and analyses for management use.

  • Advanced ability to serve as a technical leader and information resource, and to work collaboratively with senior staff and management across departments, providing advice, counsel, and analysis on issues of policy, functionality, system efficiency, upgrades, business analytics, and industry advances and trends.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience with patient care-oriented databases, hospital-based administrative database applications and data warehousing technology.

  • Advanced Experience creating SQL queries to extract data from Epic Clarity and/or Caboodle Data Warehouse and experience creating clinical reports and dashboards using Tableau or Power BI.

  • Advanced Experience creating Epic Reporting Workbench reports. Advanced Experience creating.

  • Epic Radar Dashboards and components. Experience working with Epic Slicerdicer.

  • Advanced experience working with end users and organizational leadership in obtaining meaningful data, analytics, visualizations and insights to assist with decision making and improve business operations.

  • Experience creating documentation for all data sources/dashboards.

  • Experience working with Tableau, Business Objects, and PowerBI.

  • Experience working with ServiceNow.
