Environmental Compliance and Sustainability Engineer

Silgan is hiring an Environmental Compliance & Sustainability Engineer to work onsite in our new office in Waukesha, WI.

We are looking for an Environmental Compliance and Sustainability Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, hands on environment and takes ownership of environmental compliance programs. In this role, you will focus on maintaining full regulatory compliance across multiple facilities while supporting key sustainability initiatives, minimizing risk, and ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local environmental requirements.

You will serve as a key partner to plant leadership, a subject matter expert in environmental regulations, and a critical resource in audits, inspections, compliance initiatives, and sustainability goals.

What You Will Do

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations across air, water, and waste programs while supporting sustainability objectives.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local environmental requirements
  • Prepare and maintain permits, reports, and regulatory documentation
  • Lead and support environmental audits, inspections, and corrective actions
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies
  • Monitor compliance metrics and identify areas of risk or non-compliance
  • Partner with plant operations to ensure adherence to environmental standards
  • Develop and deliver compliance training programs
  • Assist in achieving company goals, including zero waste to landfill across all plants by 2030
  • Support plants in meeting requirements related to waste reduction, recycling, and energy efficiency
  • Partner with plant leadership to advance environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of air permitting, wastewater, and hazardous waste regulations
  • Experience working with EPA and state regulatory agencies
  • Proven ability to manage audits, inspections, and compliance reporting
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Ability to travel 20-30%
  • Certifications such as PE or CHMM a plus
