Lead the long range planning for the business, application, data and technical architecture for the solutions in a specific domain. Ensuring all solutions within that domain work logically and coherently together.

Essential Functions

About the Role - We are seeking a seasoned Domain Architect to lead the design and evolution of our B2B integration, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise service domains. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with IBM Sterling B2B Integrator / Sterling File Gateway, deep expertise in cloud-native architectures, and a strong interest in leveraging AI/ML to drive operational efficiency.

This role partners closely with product, integration, security, and platform teams to define architecture principles, establish standards, and guide implementation across hybrid and multi-cloud environments.

  • Own the architecture roadmap, principles, patterns, and standards for B2B integration and cloud infrastructure domains.
  • Lead the architecture and operations of IBM Sterling B2B Integrator and Sterling File Gateway, including partner onboarding, message flows, scaling, monitoring, and runbooks.
  • Design secure integration and communication patterns using protocols such as AS2, AS4, SFTP, FTPS, HTTP/S, REST/SOAP, MQTT, and cloud-native equivalents.
  • Define and standardize authentication & identity solutions (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, mTLS, SAML, API keys, service principals, managed identities).
  • Architect cloud storage and data strategies (Azure Blob, AWS S3) with focus on lifecycle management, encryption, secure access, retention, and B2B artifact pipelines.
  • Drive containerization and Kubernetes strategy, including cluster design, namespaces, Helm/Operators, GitOps, CI/CD, runtime security, and cost optimization.
  • Provide guidance on database selection and operations (with emphasis on DB2 on cloud) for transactional and analytical workloads, including migrations, backups, and high availability.
  • Design networking, load balancing, ingress/egress, API gateway, and service mesh patterns to ensure performance, reliability, and disaster recovery.
  • Establish observability, monitoring, logging, and alerting standards (Prometheus/Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, APM) along with incident response practices.
  • Create and maintain solution documentation, business process flows, partner onboarding guides, and operational runbooks.
  • Collaborate with security and compliance teams to embed threat modeling, controls, and secure deployment practices.
  • Mentor engineers and architects, conduct design reviews, and ensure adherence to defined standards.
  • Identify and champion AI/ML and automation opportunities (e.g., partner onboarding, document parsing/classification, exception handling, routing, and alert triage) to improve efficiency and scale.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Hands-on experience with IBM Sterling B2B Integrator or Sterling File Gateway, including partner onboarding and production operations.
  • Strong expertise in cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS), including object storage (Blob/S3), IAM, and managed Kubernetes (AKS/EKS/GKE).
  • Deep knowledge of Docker containerization and Kubernetes architecture, including cluster design, CI/CD, Helm, GitOps, and operational tooling.
  • Solid understanding of networking, load balancers, ingress controllers, DNS, and HA/DR patterns.
  • Experience designing and implementing authentication and authorization solutions (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT, mTLS, SAML, service principals, managed identities).
  • Practical experience with DB2 or equivalent relational databases in cloud environments (migrations, backups, high availability).
  • In-depth knowledge of B2B/EDI protocols and standards (AS2, AS4, X12, EDIFACT).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical decisions into clear business impact and produce high-quality architecture documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience or strong aptitude and willingness to learn AI/ML concepts, automation technologies, and how to integrate them into enterprise workflows (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, SageMaker, Azure ML).
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM, Bicep), service mesh (Istio, Linkerd), API gateways, and message brokers is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native security frameworks, compliance controls, and relevant security tooling.
  • Relevant certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, CKA, or IBM Sterling-related) are a plus.
  • Strategic thinker with a pragmatic, hands-on delivery mindset.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Comfortable making trade-offs and driving consensus across engineering, operations, and product teams.
  • Detail-oriented with a bias for documentation, repeatable processes, and automation.
