Overview

The Vice President of Engineering is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic, technical, and operational leadership of TRC's engineering group within its Advanced Energy Practice. This role oversees multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering complex energy infrastructure projects across traditional and emerging energy sectors, including renewables, Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), measurement and verification (M&V), field services, emerging technologies demonstration projects, energy audits, EE measure development, and other services to internal and external clients.

The VP will drive technical excellence, operational performance, growth, and innovation while partnering closely with market, environmental, construction, and advisory leaders to deliver integrated, end-to-end solutions for clients navigating the energy transition.

This role is critical to shaping TRC's position as a leader in delivering safe, innovative, and sustainable energy solutions. The Vice President of Engineering will directly influence how TRC supports clients through the energy transition while maintaining excellence in traditional energy infrastructure.


Responsibilities

Strategic & Business Leadership

* Set and execute the engineering strategy for TRC's Advanced Energy Practice, aligned with corporate growth, innovation, and sustainability objectives.

* Partner with TRC's Advanced Energy leadership to identify, pursue, and win major opportunities across conventional and clean energy sectors.

* Identify emerging trends, technologies, and opportunities in the advanced energy space, including renewable energy, energy storage, grid modernization, and decarbonization.

* Support market expansion into emerging technologies (e.g., hydrogen, energy storage, grid modernization).

* Establish performance metrics and goals for the engineering team, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

* Contribute to long-range planning, investment decisions, and M&A integration as applicable.

Engineering & Technical Excellence

* Provide executive oversight of engineering services across the full project lifecycle.

* Ensure consistent application of engineering standards, quality systems, safety practices, and risk management.

* Serve as a technical authority and escalation point for complex, high-risk, or high-profile projects.

* Drive innovation in engineering delivery, digital tools, and design optimization.

* Responsible for ensuring continuing education and training for engineering staff.

* Responsible for engineering training approvals and processes.

Operational & Financial Performance

* Own engineering P&L performance within the Advanced Energy Practice, including revenue growth, margin, utilization, and backlog.

* Optimize organizational structure, staffing models, and resource deployment across geographies and disciplines.

* Monitor project performance and proactively address delivery, schedule, and cost risks.

* Collaborate with operations and project management leaders to ensure predictable, scalable execution.

People & Talent Leadership

* Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of engineering leaders, including discipline directors and technical experts.

* Build and sustain a high-performance culture focused on safety, accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.

* Drive workforce planning, succession planning, and talent acquisition to support current and future market demands.

* Foster an inclusive, diverse, and engaged engineering organization.

Client & Market Engagement

* Act as a senior executive sponsor for key Advanced Energy clients and strategic programs.

* Support client relationship development through technical credibility, problem-solving, and thought leadership.

* Collaborate with Product Management on the full product lifecycle, aligning the team's technical capabilities with market needs.

* Represent TRC at industry forums, conferences, and client meetings as a recognized energy engineering leader.


Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline) required, master's degree preferred.

* 15+ years of progressive experience in energy engineering, infrastructure, or consulting environments.

* Demonstrated leadership of large, multidisciplinary engineering organizations.

* Deep experience across energy infrastructure projects, including both traditional and energy transition technologies.

* Proven success managing financial performance, growth initiatives, and complex project portfolios.

* Strong understanding of regulatory, environmental, and safety considerations in the energy sector.

Preferred Experience

* Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

* Experience in consulting or professional services organizations.

* Exposure to hydrogen, CCS, renewables, grid modernization, or large-scale energy transition programs.

* Experience working with utilities, developers, energy producers, and public agencies.

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation:Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
