Job Summary
Position Description
The Bass School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology at UT Dallas invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Instruction in Music. This position is a full-time non-tenure track position.
Candidates are expected to have experience performing and teaching piano at the college level in class, ensemble, or individual instruction settings. Candidates should also be prepared to fulfill accompanist responsibilities for choral ensembles and applied voice students accounting for up to 50% of their responsibilities.
The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of four undergraduate classes per semester. Teaching assignments may include performance-oriented courses (class piano, applied piano instruction, collaborative piano ensemble, chamber music), and other studio ensemble courses with topics such as performance studies in piano, accompanying, or chamber music.
The position includes shared responsibility for coordinating class and individual piano recitals/concerts, mentoring and advising students, committee and service assignments, and opportunities to help shape policy and practices during a period of exciting transition.
The appointment commences for the fall 2026 semester.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience: A Master of Music (M.M.) in Piano or a closely related keyboard performance discipline is required prior to employment; those with ABD status will be considered at the application/interviewing stage. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.
Preferred Education and Experience: A terminal degree in Music (PhD, DMA, or DM) or a performer's diploma is preferred. Additional preferred experience includes extensive college-level teaching in piano and accompanying, a strong record of collaborative and solo performance activity, and experience coordinating recitals, mentoring students, and contributing to service or program development.
Music Program
The Music Concentration within the BA in Visual and Performing Arts provides students with an interdisciplinary environment to develop musical artistry, technical proficiency, and scholarly understanding. The program combines private instruction in a primary instrument or voice with ensemble participation and coursework in music theory, composition, music history, and digital music. Students engage in regular public performances, including semester recitals and participation in the School's Classical, Guitar, and Jazz concert series. The curriculum culminates in a senior capstone project demonstrating creative and intellectual achievement. Graduates are prepared for careers in performance, education, arts administration, and other creative fields.
