The Division of Hematology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus has an opening for a full-time Associate Professor or Professor and is seeking a Board certified or board eligible hematologist with an interest in hemostasis and thrombosis. The position includes a part-time secondary appointment in the Department of Pathology for candidates with the appropriate training and certification in blood bank and transfusion medicine. The new faculty would be joining the University of Colorado Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center (HTC), treating individuals with bleeding and clotting disorders in the outpatient setting in the HTC's free-standing clinical facility. In Pathology, the faculty would take on professional responsibilities in the Transfusion Medicine and Blood Bank Service at the University of Colorado Hospital, and clinical responsibilities for inpatients and outpatients that includes patient care in the Cellular Therapy Center Apheresis Service. The new faculty member would be expected to participate in clinical and translational research related to the focus of the HTC, and to engage in training of medical residents, fellows, and others associated with either the Departments of Medicine or Pediatrics or Pathology. The HTC provides access to multiple clinical resources, including on-site pharmacy and a large multi-disciplinary team to support patient care, as well as a vast array of diagnostic tools & cutting-edge laboratory studies. The Hematology Division of the Department of Medicine, University of Colorado School of Medicine, has its own very successful and highly efficient Clinical Trials Unit, allowing for a robust program in drug development and other studies, and includes tissue banking. As a life-span clinic, the HTC program has a close working relationship with pediatric and adult hematology, both being situated on a state-of-the art campus and allowing for collaborative clinical and research programs. There are extensive resources and opportunities for basic science, translational, and clinical research on campus in hematology and through cross-divisional networking. The Division is fully committed to the clinical and academic success of the new faculty member. The individual would become part of fantastic group of academic clinicians establishing the University of Colorado as a center of excellence in hematology. Key Responsibilities:
Ambulatory-based patient care at the HTC, caring for patients with bleeding and clotting disorders. Hospital-based transfusion medicine and blood banking: review of antibody identifications and transfusion reaction investigations, teaching residents and fellows, coordination of complex transfusions, and communication with clinical services regarding transfusion-related issues; oversight of apheresis cell collections, red cell exchanges, and extracorporeal photopheresis. This role includes covering night and weekend call for these services. This role includes supervising nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, fellows, residents, and medical students as needed. Serving as principal investigator for research studies, primarily focusing on patient-oriented research, including, but not limited to, clinical trials Teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, fellows and other trainees Participating in and leading outreach activities, including outreach clinics outside the CU-Anschutz campus, educational events for patients and their families, camps for patients, work with patient advocacy groups, and other similar initiatives

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below: Associate Professor:
MD or DO degree Board Certified in Hematology or Pediatric Hematology / Oncology Board Certified in Transfusion Medicine Eligible for Colorado state medical license Experience in treating patients with bleeding and clotting disorders and practicing in clinical pathology in the subspecialty of blood banking and transfusion medicine Able to obtain credentials and privileges at the University of Colorado Hospital and with CU Medicine
Professor:
MD or DO degree Board Certified in Hematology or Pediatric Hematology / Oncology Board Certified in Transfusion Medicine Eligible for Colorado state medical license Experience in treating patients with bleeding and clotting disorders and practicing in clinical pathology in the subspecialty of blood banking and transfusion medicine Able to obtain credentials and privileges at the University of Colorado Hospital and with CU Medicine For Professor Level: Applicant must have submitted a dossier for promotion to the Rank of Professor at current organization/university.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading research teams Experience serving as principal investigator for clinical trials in the bleeding and clotting disorders field Understanding of FDA and CMS regulations as well as CAP and AABB accreditation standards Experience with regulatory and quality improvement activities Fellowship training and board certification in blood bank and transfusion medicine by the American Board of Pathology Interest and experience in laboratory testing of coagulation diseases, including the interpretation of laboratory testing used in transfusion medicine and coagulation testing Have obtained the Rank of Professor
