SUMMARY:
The operating room RN is responsible for the care and safety of the patient in the operating room. The operating room RN oversees the running of the OR in accordance with established federal, state, and accreditation standards. The operating room RN ensures that all necessary equipment and instrumentation is available, and organizes case carts for upcoming procedures. The OR RN ensures that all members of the perioperative team adhere to the Universal Protocol policy. Other duties include cleaning, decontamination and sterilization of instruments and operating room disinfection and cleaning. RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Anticipates surgeon needs
- Maintains surgeon preference cards
- Conducts a patient assessment and reassessment and evaluation and documents appropriately.
- Ensures patient safety during intraoperative phase in both the circulating and scrub role
- Ensures that all needed equipment is available and in working order
- Processes instruments for the operating room
- Perform specimen handling
- Participates in Hospital Committees/Meetings as assigned
- Participates in preceptorship program and educates new hires within the organization
- Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1 - 5 years' prior experience preferred
- Knowledge of aseptic technique, infection control principles, sterilization techniques, instrument processing, and operation of steam sterilizers.
- Knowledge of Spaulding Classification
- Knowledge of AORN Standards and Recommended Practices
- Knowledge of Universal Protocol
- Ability to prioritize equipment needs of the operating room
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
EDUCATION:
- Associates Degree required, BSN preferred
- RN and BLS required, ACLS required within 6 months of hire
Pay Range: $35.70-$71.40
