Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The Laboratory Technician I is responsible for supporting production by analyzing a variety of samples using different test methods; performing microbiological and/or physical tests on raw material, in-process products and finished products. Daily tasks include the receipt of samples, determining methods by reviewing procedures and specifications, testing samples (reporting any abnormal reactions to Laboratory leadership), documenting, and reporting of results, and cleaning and stocking the work area. The Laboratory Technician I is also responsible for daily maintaining laboratory equipment and performing routine quality control checks.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Troubleshoot issues or concerns with Supervisor/Management.
  • Understand and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Safety Protocol
    • Stop any observed unsafe acts and obey facility safety rules and procedures.
    • Correct or report any observed safety hazards.
    • Support safety policies and programs.

Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Associate's Degree or some coursework in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.

Experience Required:

  • No experience required; on the job training provided.
  • Experience with both metric and standard systems of measurement required.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills, establish priorities, ability to multitask, and meet deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with supervisors/managers, colleagues and individuals inside and outside the organization.

  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and field-specific software.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, quality and cleanliness in work.
  • Results driven, bottom-line oriented, strive to exceed goals, and motivate self and others to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrate functional and technical knowledge, ability to learn new skills quickly, and achieve a high level of accomplishment.

Where you'll be working:

Our Little Chute, WI, plant is home to about 95 employees. This facility is a top manufacturer of IQF sticks that are supplied to the appetizer industry. Next to the plant is our well-known Simon's Specialty Cheese store, which has about 20 employees. Simon's is a Wisconsin-themed store, with everything from meats and cheese to clothing and craft spirits.

Cheese focus: Agropur's US operations produce approximately 1 billion pounds of quality, award winning cheese each year. The US operations produce more than 20 different cheese varieties along with whey protein and dry ingredients.
