United States, Illinois, Des Plaines
May 06, 2026

With offices in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio, Pepper Construction is a national general contracting and construction management firm that primarily serves the private sector. Pepper Construction provides clients the experience and resources of a national company, combined with the hands-on approach of a local company.

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a Quality Manager who brings sharp technical judgment, confident field leadership, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset. This individual is decisive in the field, comfortable leading conversations at all levels, and relentlessly focused on improving quality outcomes across multiple active projects - from preconstruction through closeout.

At Pepper, Quality Managers are not inspectors. They are field leaders, problem solvers, and trusted partners to project teams. This role works hand in hand with Project Managers, Superintendents, Preconstruction, and trade partners to elevate execution, reduce risk, and continuously improve how work gets built across every phase of the project lifecycle.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the development and execution of Job-Specific Quality Plans in partnership with project teams, ensuring alignment from preconstruction through field installation and closeout
  • Review construction documents, specifications, shop drawings, and submittals to proactively identify risk, coordination gaps, and opportunities to improve constructability early in the process
  • Facilitate pre-installation meetings with trade partners to align expectations, confirm means and methods, and establish clear standards for execution before work begins
  • Conduct regular jobsite walks to evaluate workmanship, identify issues, and support real-time decision-making with field leadership and subcontractors
  • Document field observations in a clear, actionable way that drives accountability, corrective action, and consistent quality across projects
  • Partner closely with field leadership to resolve technical and quality issues quickly and effectively, minimizing rework and maintaining schedule momentum
  • Support sequencing, installation strategies, and workflow planning to improve coordination and field execution
  • Perform constructability reviews during preconstruction to identify risks early and incorporate lessons learned into future project execution
  • Support training and coaching efforts that raise the bar for quality and execution across all project teams

You'll also continue to build deep technical expertise across key building systems, including:

  • Building enclosure systems
  • Concrete
  • Metal stud framing and drywall
  • Flooring systems
  • Life safety systems

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in construction management, quality, design, construction technology, testing, or related disciplines
  • Strong understanding of construction documents, specifications, shop drawings, and submittals
  • Deep understanding of building systems, sequencing, and field operations
  • Industry certifications such as RRO, REWO, CABS, or ACI credentials are highly valued.

The target salary for this position is $85,000 to $110,000. We consider many factors when determining actual hiring salary. These factors may include location, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, internal equity, and market demands.
