The Supervisor Ultrasound oversees daily operations, staff management, and patient services within the radiology department. This position supervises team members that utilize ultrasound equipment to provide diagnostic sonographic examinations to locate, evaluate and record critical functional, pathological and anatomical data. This role ensures the delivery of precise ultrasound imaging procedures, fosters staff development, and upholds safety and quality standards, contributing to accurate diagnostics and exceptional patient care.

Essential Job Function

  • Supervises and manages staff, schedules, workflow, and patient services to establish an organized and patient-centered environment, fostering excellence in ultrasound imaging services.
  • Oversees and performs high-quality routine and special ultrasound examinations following established protocols and procedures to minimize repeat examinations and assist in the accurate diagnosis and treatment of patients, ensuring optimal patient care.
  • Ensures the safety and comfort of patients during ultrasound procedures by explaining the process, addressing concerns, and positioning patients correctly to promote a positive patient experience.
  • Oversees the use and maintenance of ultrasound equipment, troubleshoots technical issues, and optimizes imaging parameters to produce high-quality images and ensure accurate interpretations by radiologists or physicians.
  • Ensures accurate documentation and recording of patient information, examination details, and preliminary findings in Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), and resolves any errors related to the final product being sent to PACS to maintain proper patient records and ensure comprehensive documentation for effective communication and continuity of care.
  • Ensures completion of employee time sheets, provides coaching, corrective actions, and conducts performance evaluations to nurture staff growth, align outcomes with benchmarks, and enhance the proficiency of the ultrasound team.
  • Ensures adherence to industry standards by overseeing compliance with accreditation requirements, coordinating equipment evaluations, and conducting regular quality assurance measures for the ultrasound department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent; Graduate of a Radiology, Imaging or related educational program

Experience

  • Required: 2 years

Licensure/Certification/Listing

  • Required:BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare ProviderARDMS Ultrasound Technologist, ARRT RT(S) Ultrasound Technologist or CCI RVSRVT/RVS Registered Vascular Technologist required for sites without onsite Vascular Lab (APH, ARMC, & MedCenters)Where required, all current Cone Health Sonographers will have 2-years to successfully complete RVT requirement. Any new candidate sonographer will have 16 months to successfully complete RVT requirement.Additional Information on required licensure/certification/registry/listings:OB/GYN and/or ABDOMEN and/or BREAST and/or VASCULAR and/or PEDSPreferred:RVT/RVS Registered Vascular Technologist preferred for sites with onsite Vascular Lab (MCH & WLH)
