Hiring Department

The Trulaske College of Business, University of Missouri - Columbia

Job Description

Applications are invited for an Assistant Teaching Professor with a focus on AI. This is a 9-month, non-tenure-track faculty appointment in the Trulaske College of Business at the University of Missouri and can be housed in any of the departments in the College, dependent on background and fit. The position is renewable and intended as a long-term role within the College. The College of Business values sustained excellence in teaching and engagement and supports ongoing professional development and advancement for teaching-focused faculty, contingent upon satisfactory performance, programmatic needs, and available funding. The start date of the appointment will be January 2027.

This position is ideal for candidates who are passionate about applied artificial intelligence, enjoy teaching and mentoring, and are motivated by the opportunity to shape how future business leaders understand and use AI in organizational settings.

Duties include teaching undergraduate- and master's-level courses focused on artificial intelligence and its applications in business, with an emphasis on experiential learning and hands-on use of contemporary AI tools and platforms. Courses are intended for business students and focus on managerial understanding and applied problem-solving, rather than technical model development. The successful candidate will have substantial autonomy in course design and will be encouraged to continuously update course content to reflect the rapidly evolving AI landscape. To support this work, the College provides dedicated professional development funding for conferences, certifications, specialized AI training, and other activities that ensure continued currency in emerging tools and applications.

The successful candidate will also serve as a resource for faculty across the College of Business, supporting the integration of AI-related tools, assignments, and pedagogical approaches into existing courses. This may include consultations, workshops, and the development of shared instructional resources. In this role, the faculty member will play a visible leadership role in advancing AI literacy and innovation across the College.

The person hired in this role is expected to also teach undergraduate business courses in one or more functional areas of business (e.g., accounting, finance, management, marketing), depending on their expertise. The individual in this role will report to the chair of a department within the College of Business and will be involved in service duties such as serving on department and college committees. Teaching loads and service expectations are consistent with a teaching-focused, non-tenure-track appointment and are designed to support sustained excellence and professional balance.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned master's degree from an accredited institution; academic preparation in Business, Data Science, Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise and current knowledge of artificial intelligence applications in business contexts; expertise may include, but is not limited to, generative AI and agentic AI, prompt engineering, AI ethics and governance, decision support systems, automation, analytics, and/or AI-enabled business processes
  • Professional experience applying AI, analytics, or related technologies in organizational, consulting, or applied professional settings

The College welcomes applications from candidates with significant professional experience, including those whose primary background is outside of traditional academic career paths. Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required.

Candidates Will Be Evaluated On

  • Degree attainment and academic or professional preparation relevant to AI and business education
  • Evidence of effective teaching, training, or professional instructional experience
  • Ability to teach applied artificial intelligence courses at the undergraduate and master's level
  • Ability to teach at least one additional functional area of business, depending on expertise
  • Demonstrated interest in and capacity for collaborating with faculty on AI-related curricular innovation
  • Ability to translate AI concepts into accessible, managerially relevant learning experiences
Application Materials

Application materials should include a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, evidence of effective teaching, training, or professional instructional experience, and the names and contact details for three references.
