OVERVIEW:

Veeco is scaling the ion beam deposition platform to meet rapidly growing demand from manufacturers building the optical infrastructure that powers next-generation artificial intelligence data centers. As Senior Director, Engineering - Advanced Deposition Systems, you will lead the engineering organization responsible for translating customer demand, product strategy, and manufacturing requirements into reliable, production-ready semiconductor equipment. Your decisions directly influence engineering capacity, product quality, customer satisfaction, and the speed at which Veeco can deliver critical systems to the market. You will unify Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, and Software Engineering teams around a common execution model while driving multiple product development, customer customization, qualification, and production initiatives simultaneously. This is an opportunity to shape both the future of the platform and the engineering organization required to scale it successfully.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Set the engineering execution strategy for the platform and align resources with product roadmap priorities and manufacturing growth objectives.
  • Lead Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, and Software Engineering organizations through requirements, architecture, design, validation, production release, and field support.
  • Deliver multiple concurrent development and customer programs that meet schedule, quality, cost, reliability, and customer performance commitments.
  • Establish engineering operating mechanisms, metrics, and governance processes that improve predictability, accountability, and execution speed.
  • Drive system-level decisions that balance technical performance, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, and long-term product reliability.
  • Partner with Operations, Product Management, Technology, Supply Chain, and Customer Support to ensure seamless transition from concept through production and field deployment.
  • Build and develop engineering leadership talent capable of sustaining long-term product growth and organizational scale.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline and 15+ years of engineering experience developing complex capital equipment, semiconductor equipment, vacuum systems, photonics equipment, or other highly engineered products is required. 7+ years of leadership experience managing engineering managers or multi-disciplinary engineering organizations is a must.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated experience leading products through development, qualification, production release, and customer deployment.
  • Experience managing engineering organizations with responsibility for budget, staffing, execution, and business outcomes consistent with Senior Director-level scope.
  • Deep system-level understanding of complex electro-mechanical products and the interfaces between hardware, controls, software, and process performance.
  • Skilled at converting customer and market requirements into executable engineering plans with clear milestones, risks, and resource requirements.
  • Experience with semiconductor processing equipment, vacuum systems, thin-film deposition technologies, ion beam technologies, photonics manufacturing equipment, or optical coating systems.
  • Strong expertise in design for manufacturability, engineering change management, configuration control, and production transfer processes.
  • Able to influence executive stakeholders and cross-functional partners through data-driven decision making and clear technical communication.
  • Skilled at building leadership capability, succession depth, and high-performing engineering cultures.
  • Comfortable operating in environments where product growth, customer commitments, and operational scale must advance simultaneously.
