Overview

NV5 is a provider of engineering and consulting services to public and private sector clients, delivering solutions through six business verticals: Testing, Inspection & Consulting; Infrastructure; Utility Services; Environmental Health Sciences; Buildings & Program Management; and Geospatial Technology. With offices nationwide and abroad, NV5 helps clients plan, design, build, test, certify, and operate projects that improve the communities where we live and work.

As engineers, architects, construction/program managers, environmental professionals and beyond, we play a significant role in shaping our communities through the services we provide. We are looking for passionate, driven individuals to join our team focused on Delivering Solutions and Improving Lives.

The Director of Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) is the strategic leader and "mini business owner" of the VDC practice. This role owns the health, quality, and growth of the service line, acting as the highest leadership tier that still maintains direct ownership of execution. The Director is responsible for profitability, defining the evolution of our digital offerings, and positioning NV5 as a premier digital partner rather than a commodity vendor.

Responsibilities

Practice Leadership & Profitability

Business Ownership: Own the full P&L for the VDC practice, including revenue targets, gross margins, and overall financial health.
  • Service Evolution: Define and evolve service offerings, scopes, and quality benchmarks based on client needs, emerging technology, and market feedback.
  • Operational Efficiency: Invest in and implement workflow integrations and automation to improve practice-wide delivery and profitability.

Strategic Client & Market Engagement

  • Executive Partnership: Lead key client relationships at the executive level, positioning the VDC group as a strategic digital partner.
  • Unified Storytelling: Collaborate and align with other NV5 business verticals to present a unified, technology-forward story to clients.
  • Market Representation: Represent the digital practice externally at industry events and through thought leadership to drive brand recognition.

Execution & Quality Control

  • Execution Oversight: Maintain ultimate accountability for the delivery and quality of high-complexity projects, ensuring they meet established benchmarks.
  • Escalation Management: Act as the primary point for resolving high-level technical or project-based escalations.
  • Cross-Practice Growth: Proactively identify opportunities to integrate VDC services into other NV5 projects and business lines.

Talent & Leadership Development

  • Team Growth: Responsible for the professional development, hiring, and retention of VDC staff.
  • Succession Planning: Ensure leadership continuity within the practice by mentoring and preparing the next generation of digital construction leaders.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 12+ years of experience in the AEC industry, with at least 5 years in a significant leadership or department-head capacity.
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Business Acumen: Proven track record of managing a budget, driving revenue growth, and understanding professional services financial metrics.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep expertise in BIM/VDC workflows, Reality Capture (Laser Scanning/Mobile Mapping), and Data Management.
  • Skills: Exceptional communication, strategic planning, and the ability to influence stakeholders across a matrixed organization.
  • Requirements: Must have a valid driver's license and pass a motor vehicle check.

The pay range for this position is $145,000- $160,000 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location. Applicants should apply via the NV5 careers site.

NV5 offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including medical, dental, life insurance, PTO, 401(k) and professional development/advancement opportunities.
