Responsible for the climate outreach and engagement activities, establishing and maintaining relationships with internal teams, residents, businesses, and community partners; creating and implementing climate communications tools and resources; planning, implementing and evaluating climate outreach strategies and campaigns; and, writing, developing and coordinating outreach materials and tools.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

* Coordinate outreach messaging and activities with external engagement partners that help achieve project or program goals, as well as and connect community members to resources * Coordinate activities with key internal departments including communications * Plan for and facilitate meetings with internal and external partners to plan community outreach strategies and materials, including , including ordering food and arranging speakers. * Make and sustain relationship connections within under-represented communities including business associations, trade organizations, neighborhood organizations and other community-based organizations. * Create and implement effective communication tools and resources for the Sustainability, Healthy Homes, and Environmental Programs (SHHE) division such as listservs, website, email, flyers, and reference materials. * Develop outreach and educational programs and materials. Research, write, edit, and produce articles, newsletters, flyers, case studies, testimonials, videos, and web content to promote effective communication and share climate impact stories with various audiences, including businesses, residents, neighborhood and business groups, and elected officials. * Work with bilingual staff and translators to translate climate program resources and materials. * Develop and monitor climate and sustainability team communications plans. * Coordinate specific projects or programs, and plan for or assist other staff in implementing additional programs as needed that reduce climate and resilience risks to Minneapolis residents. * Evaluate climate programs and services to make them more accessible, equitable and useful for under-represented communities. * Assist in planning and implementing climate program and policy changes and messaging these changes to the community. * Assist in division outreach training. * Assist in the development of grant proposals in response to identified opportunities to work toward division goals. * Develop, manage, and monitor contracts for delivery of service. * Participate in Public Health Emergency Preparedness planning, training, and response, as needed/as assigned by the department. WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office setting. Hybrid options may be available.

Required Qualifications

MINUMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in business, Public Health, Communications, or a closely Related Field or equivalent. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Two years of relevant experience in community engagement work with diverse populations, and communications work including writing content for different mediums and audiences.
Candidates must have the ability to travel throughout the community to perform outreach activities.
LANGUAGE: Bilingual skills in Spanish or Somali are desirable. Language Pay: A premium rate for use of a second language may be provided at the sole discretion of the City. Exempt and Non-exempt employees will be compensated at the rate of $10.430 per day when assigned and used.
Selection Process:
The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.
Interview Selection:
The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.
Background Check:
The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position.
Drug and Alcohol Testing: All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. Applicants will be required to sign a notification and consent form prior to undergoing drug and alcohol testing. Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position.
Union Representation:

Eligible List:
The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire two month after it has been established.

* Strong oral and written communication skills including public speaking and presentation skills. * Good knowledge of modern office software for creating reports, spreadsheets and presentations. * Ability to work in collaborative environment and maintain effective working relationships with diverse populations. * Ability to multitask, managing multiple projects at one time, and work in a team environment. * Good customer service skills and the ability to solve problems and resolve conflict. * Ability to work under pressure and meet frequent deadlines. * Detail oriented with good organizational skills. * Knowledge of contract management, grant writing, and policy implementation desirable. * Experience developing, implementing and evaluating projects and programs desirable.
