Your Job Georgia-Pacific is seeking a dedicated Safety & Health Manager to provide leadership presence at our Alabama River Cellulose facility in Perdue Hill, AL. Reporting to the Vice President, General Manager, the Safety Manager will provide transformative leadership and guidance to the site leadership team and their team of direct reports. This position will lead a Safety and Health capability group that includes strategic direction and oversite in the areas of Occupational Safety and Health, Process Safety, Worker's Compensation/Medical Management, Emergency Response for the site, and Security. This role will work directly with the leadership team in identifying risk reduction plans, leverage transformative investment opportunities via the site's Path to Zero risk reduction plan, and applying Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) concepts to assist the mill in becoming a learning organization, creating value by achieving sustainable improvements. As a key leader in the mill, the successful candidate will create value for the organization by ensuring risk is aggressively identified and mitigated, developing and aligning facility safety strategies to be consistent with the company/division Health & Safety vision, and ensuring leaders and employees are trained and equipped to manage safety. Our Team The Alabama River Cellulose facility is the largest fluff pulp manufacturing mill in North America and employs over five hundred team members. For more than 48 years, the Alabama River team has been on a journey to make the best products possible for customers while doing it in new and innovative ways. Our products include chemical cellulose and custom fibers used in products such as diapers, baby wipes, filters, paper products, and transformers. What You Will Do * Supervise the Safety & Health team and ongoing development of the team * Partner with mill leadership to develop and execute strategic safety and health improvement plans * Promote a positive safety environment using Principle Based Management (PBM) as the guide with all team members to help the facility embrace and achieve the site's Path to Zero Safety strategy consistent with our company's overall Safety Vision * Lead the Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) methodology at the site, including department and task risk assessments * Facilitate incident investigations, ensuring HOP concepts are utilized so the learning is maximized and ensuring recommendations are effective from both a prevention and recovery perspective to build the capacity to fail safely * Utilize development plans to grow safety/health and process safety skills and knowledge through innovation in training and development programs * Develop strategies for emerging facility and corporate needs and initiatives, especially those related to risk reduction with asset strategies and process safety ventures * Ensure compliance with OSHA PSM and EPA RMP requirements for the covered process, as well as promote the use of process safety principles throughout the mill to reduce risk to our employees, our environment, and our community * Work closely with facility maintenance team to ensure mechanical integrity is managed in keeping with risk-based process safety objectives as well as compliance-based requirements * Lead the development of risk assessment methods/systems for anticipating, identifying, and evaluating hazards, overseeing evaluation, interpretation, and compliance with state and federal regulations and permits * Apply Human and Organization Performance (HOP) concepts so the facility becomes a robust learning environment where knowledge sharing occurs in an expedite manner * Enhance the site capabilities in critical hazard program management, including hazardous energy control; fall protection, mobile equipment, and pedestrian interactions; cranes and rigging, work permitting; emergency preparedness; etc. * Communicate and collaborate with business and company safety, health, process safety capabilities to ensure alignment with business vision, strategy, and programs. * Lead and/or facilitate the leadership of Process Hazards Analyses (PHA) for processes involving highly hazardous chemicals Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) * Bachelor's Degree OR Four (4) or more years leading safety in an industrial/manufacturing facility * Experience using and applying EHS Management Systems * Experience interpreting, managing, and training to regulatory (OSHA) and compliance standards What Will Put You Ahead * Bachelor's Degree or higher in Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene or Engineering * Knowledge and experience of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) concepts/methods * Experience with process safety management in a manufacturing environment * Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and/or Professional Engineer (PE) certification * Experience establishing sustainable systems for compliance and continuous improvement * Experience with process safety management in a manufacturing environment * Experience leading and developing direct reports At Koch companies, we are entrepreneurs.
