Department:FDSC | Grain Processing ResearchDepartment's Website: The ARPP is seeking a motivated Lab Technician to assist with rice processing operations, rice-related research projects, day-to-day service center analyses and rice processing pilot plant management. The successful candidate will support experiments and ongoing research projects while helping maintain smooth laboratory and pilot plant operations. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Research Support Conducting research in the general area of rice processing and safety, including microbial safety. This includes assisting with sample collection, processing, and storage, as well as optimization of routine laboratory methods. Student Training & Support Providing research-related advice, support, and training to graduate and undergraduate students. Assisting students with their research projects. Lab Operations & Maintenance Making supervised decisions regarding lab operations and general maintenance as well as the rice processing pilot plant operations. Monitoring lab safety and usage, maintaining laboratory stocks of reagents and consumables, keeping an accurate inventory of lab supplies, and ensuring the inventory is reviewed and updated regularly. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering (or related engineering discipline), Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field is required. * Must be comfortable using computers and proficient in the Microsoft Office suite. * Experience with rice processing research and laboratory operations and maintenance. Preferred Qualifications * Demonstrated knowledge of basic laboratory techniques as well as techniques specific to food processing and safety. * Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment. * Potential to contribute to publishable research, either individually or as part of a team. * Ability to maintain a clean and organized working environment. * Experience using and managing a variety of scientific instruments. * At least 6 months of directly related research experience in rice processing and safety, preferably in a laboratory or pilot plant setting.
