Position Summary

Under general supervision of the Director, support the mission of UCLA Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) and the University in providing the highest quality mental health services for the wide range of students at UCLA. Provide medical services to clients including evaluations, medication management, emergency intervention, consultation to non-psychiatric staff, supervision of interns, and residents. Accept overall direction from the Director and participates in meetings, committees, and carry out necessary charting and data requirements. This is a 75% Career Appointment position.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct rapid psychiatric assessments. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication. (Required)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of most recent advances in use of psychoactive medications. (Required)
  • Knowledge of developmental issues in university populations. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a mental health team. (Required)
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills, e.g., Windows, Word. (Required)
  • Knowledge and skill in intervening in acute crisis situations with suicidal, homicidal and psychotic individuals. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of hospitalization procedures. (Required)
  • Ability to work with a diverse population. (Required)

  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • MD degree and license to practice medicine in California. ()
  • Completion of Residency in Psychiatry and Board Certified in Psychiatry. ()

  • Special Conditions for Employment

  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
  • CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse".
