The Department of Internal Medicine is seeking a Clinical Research Nurse to support a growing portfolio of clinical research studies across Cardiology and Gastroenterology, with future opportunities to support additional specialties including Endocrinology, with flexibility to support evolving departmental research needs.

The Clinical Research Nurse I coordinates and conducts clinical research activities across a growing portfolio of Internal Medicine studies. Current research efforts include drug trials, standard of care, and medical device studies, with additional opportunities to support other Internal Medicine research programs.

This role combines clinical patient interaction, research coordination, data management, regulatory support, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Screen, recruit, consent, enroll, and retain research participants according to study protocols.
  • Conduct nursing assessments and monitor participants throughout study participation.
  • Coordinate participant visits throughout the study lifecycle, from screening and enrollment through follow-up assessments.
  • Review medical records and collect relevant clinical data for research studies.
  • Administer and monitor investigational therapies and study-related interventions as permitted by protocol.
  • Document study activities, participant interactions, and protocol-related procedures in electronic systems and source documentation.
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of study data into clinical trial management systems and sponsor databases.
  • Collaborate with investigators, research coordinators, sponsors, and clinical partners to maintain protocol compliance.
  • Monitor, identify, document, and report adverse events and protocol deviations.
  • Support regulatory submissions, study audits, monitoring visits, and compliance activities.
  • Maintain participant confidentiality and ensure the integrity and security of research data.
  • Apply institutional, federal, and regulatory requirements governing human subjects research.
  • Serve as a resource for research participants and interdisciplinary study teams.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of clinical nursing practices and patient care standards.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple studies and competing priorities in a fast-paced research environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency with Epic, Microsoft Office, and clinical research software systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to travel to off-site clinical or research locations as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with current Missouri nursing license or eligibility for Missouri licensure.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Three (3) years of professional nursing experience.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical research or clinical trials experience.
  • Critical care, acute care, hospital-based, telemetry, cardiac, or gastrointestinal nursing experience.
  • Strong Epic experience, including medical record review and data extraction.
