OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY - Operating Budget

The Senior Financial Analyst for Operating Budget is responsible for activities related to planning, preparation, and execution of the operating and key statistic budgets for the designated campus as well as reporting on monthly performance against the budget plan. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to perform project related financial analysis with no supervision, creation of executive-level system reporting, increasing financial acumen of operating partner teams through education and communication efforts, and thorough understanding of key business lines and operations for the assigned campus.

The Senior Financial Analyst is assigned projects by the Department Coordinator, Manager, or Director that require a comprehensive understanding of general health care operations, complex financial modeling and the ability to operate at a high level of independent thinking. Conducts complex operational and financial analyses and provides training and education in a mentoring relationship to lower-level financial analysts. Also assumes the coordination of large non-routine projects as assigned by the Department Coordinator, Manager or Director.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Operating Budget

  1. Conducts complex financial analysis projects using decision support systems, data warehouses or other data and analytical tools without supervision.
  2. Leads the development of annual volume and expense budgets for the assigned campus. Assists with creating board-level presentations for system budgets.
  3. Conduct monthly variance analysis and provide executive-level insights and reporting of financial and operational performance.
  4. Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies both for assigned campus and system initiatives.
  5. Work closely with Accounting and other departments to ensure financial accuracy.
  6. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand impacts of operational changes on financial performance and aide in system-wide strategic project execution.
  7. Understands the decision support systems and tools available to complete financial projects.
  8. Abstracts data from a number of the decision support systems in order to complete financial projects. Reviews data for accuracy and reasonableness before presenting to management.
  9. Summarizes the analyses in professional documentation and communicates findings to leaders and executive team members.
  10. Perform and train team members on advanced report writing and modification within the financial planning system.
  11. Lead and assist with the creating and/or editing of system training and education classes for operating partners on the use of financial planning tools.
  12. Leads the monthly forecasting process, ensuring that leadership is equipped with the most accurate projections based on the information available.
  13. Assists with training and mentoring of entry-level staff.
  14. Leads monthly reporting package creation for executive team review with minimal supervision.

REQUIRED

  1. Bachelor's degree preferably in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, Public Health or Healthcare Administration or similar field
  2. Four (4) years of experience in decision-making support role OR combination of experience and relevant advanced degree.
  3. Experience in training/educating and mentoring others.
  4. Experience in the development and management of complex project plans.
  5. Skills in using Microsoft Office products; advanced level ability with Excel & Access applications.

PREFERRED

  1. 4+ years' experience in healthcare finance role.
  2. Master's in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or similar role.
  3. Two years' experience as a Healthcare Senior Financial Analyst or Consultant.
  4. Strong knowledge of and experience with databases using SQL or other advance system languages. Adept at creating and managing complex queries.
  5. Knowledge of CPT/HCPCS codes or experience in charging or performing charging validation reviews.
  6. Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and analyze significant amount of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  7. Demonstrated advanced executive-level professional communication skills in written reports and oral formats.
  8. Experience with decision support products.
  9. Experience with Standard Query Language (SQL).
