TITLE

HSC Learning Environments & Event Support Specialist

JOB SUMMARY

The Learning Environments & Event Support Specialist at TWU's Health Sciences Center (HSC) in Denton provides high-level technical support for academic learning environments and live campus events. This position is responsible for the operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of presentation technologies including audio-visual (AV) systems, classroom technologies, and remote/hybrid learning tools. The specialist plays a critical role in supporting faculty, staff, and students by ensuring the reliability of instructional and presentation systems, coordinating setup and teardown for events, and delivering hands-on support for live and recorded sessions. This role also supports simulation-based instruction and serves as a technical resource for the Denton HSC community.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Manager Learning Environments

Supervises: Student Assistants

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:

  • Provide onsite technical support for classroom and lab technologies at the Denton HSC, including AV systems, hybrid teaching tools, and simulation components.

  • Set up, test, operate, and troubleshoot AV and multimedia equipment for in-person and virtual events.

  • Coordinate with faculty and staff on AV and recording needs for meetings, events, and lectures.

  • Maintain and document the operation and configuration of AV systems, projection, switching, lighting, sound, and video components.

  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 classroom support, including on-call and walk-up troubleshooting.

  • Assist with recording and livestreaming of academic events using lecture capture and video conferencing tools.

  • Train faculty and staff on the effective use of installed instructional technologies and provide hands-on support.

  • Develop technical guides and documentation for event setup and classroom technology use.

  • Stay current with trends in instructional technology, AV hardware/software, and hybrid learning environments.

  • Collaborate with Learning Environments team to support equipment upgrades, system testing, and room refresh planning.

  • Support the security, integrity, and lifecycle maintenance of classroom and event presentation systems.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Performs other duties as requested.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree or Vocational/Technical preferred. Additional job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

EXPERIENCE

One to two years of relevant experience in enterprise-level desktop computer and/or end-user computing support and device management. Additional job-related education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

REQUIREMENT

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - The following are essential:

  • AV systems (e.g., Kramer, Extron, AMX), projection/display technologies, wireless microphones, and video recording tools.

  • Basics of instructional design and faculty use of classroom tech.

  • Familiarity with lecture capture platforms (e.g., Panopto, Zoom, Teams).

Skills:

  • Skill in AV signal flow, equipment calibration, and troubleshooting.

  • Skilled in configuring and supporting video conferencing environments.

  • Technical documentation and training development.

Abilities:

  • Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to identify and solve technical problems.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a cross-functional support team.

  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and install AV equipment up to 50 lbs and use ladders when needed.

Additional/Desirable Skills & Abilities:

  • Exposure to computer-aided simulation technology.

  • Skill providing instructional technology support to teaching professionals and/or students.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing and delivering training and effective support materials.
