Job Description
The Environmental Controls organization is the Laboratory's subject matter experts in the radiological environmental monitoring program. The monitoring program is required by Federal, State, and local environmental regulations and/or NAVSEA direction. Efforts include performance of radiological dose assessments for normal and accident conditions; issuing reports to regulatory agencies as necessary; monitor, review and interpret environmental requirements; assess and enforce compliance; and, provide technical and analytical consultation to Bettis, other Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program (Program) facilities, and NAVSEA including Navy and/or Naval shipyards. Individual is responsible for the development and/or follow of programs or projects to ensure compliance with operational, design, regulatory and Program requirements and may perform work document reviews, engineering evaluations, analyses or assessments to support assigned tasks. Identifies process enhancements to routine and special personnel monitoring, environmental and area monitoring and radiological assessments. Provides subject matter expertise in regulated areas such as radiological controls, quality assurance, and emergency planning to personnel to support safe and compliant execution of work activities. Work may include providing interface, independent oversight and assessment of Bettis, Subcontractor, and DOE-EM operations, material evaluations, design reviews, development of engineering methods, major site system and facility operations. Preparation and maintenance of records and reports to meet regulatory and Program requirements, evaluate and assess site performance, perform surveillance, clarify and implement regulatory requirements, prepare, review and approve technical work procedures and identify improvements to existing processes. May lead or provide support for inspections and interface with outside regulatory agencies. Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science related field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience with certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics;or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience with certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field with certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics. Certified Health Physicist or passed part 1 Certified Health Physicist exam. Compensation and Benefits
Pay Range
$117,900.00 - $184,300.00 annually
