What to Expect
This role is for a Senior Accountant on Tesla's Corporate Accounting team. The team is responsible for accounting, internal controls and financial reporting for multiple accounting areas including investments, goodwill & intangibles, accounts payable, accrued expenses, long-term debt, other assets/liabilities, and SG&A/R&D expenses. As part of the month-end accounting close process, this role will analyze accounting variances and metrics and reconcile accounts to assess the reasonableness of Tesla's accounting results. The candidate must be comfortable communicating accounting matters to all levels of management, including concisely summarizing key issues for leadership. The candidate must be able to independently identify and resolve accounting issues as they arise. For more technical accounting issues, the candidate must be able to recognize risks, define the key issues, and collaborate with the Technical Accounting team to determine the appropriate accounting treatment. This role plays a critical part in maintaining Tesla's control environment. The person in this role must have strong experience with SOX (walkthroughs, internal control testing, interacting with internal/external auditors) and actively contribute to the continual improvement of Tesla's internal controls. This role will focus on simplifying and scaling accounting processes as well as collaborating with IT to develop and test automated solutions to reduce/replace recurring manual accounting work.
