About Quadrant-i at the Georgia Institute of Technology

Quadrant-i is a recently created unit in Georgia Tech's Office of Commercialization that enables faculty, researchers, and doctoral students to translate technologies developed in research labs into commercial solutions. Georgia Tech seeks an entrepreneurial leader with an excellent record of startup and business experience to serve as a Principal within Quadrant-i.

Job Summary

We seek a highly motivated, ambitious proven individual who will, through their direct efforts, create and grow highly impactful startups based on Georgia Institute of Technology's (Georgia Tech's) ground-breaking research and intellectual property.

We are seeking a talented individual with experience and knowledge to an appointment with the following area of expertise.

Experience in engineering and/or business execution, management and customer acquisition in startups with AI/ML-focused innovations.

Job Purpose: Serving within Quadrant-i of Georgia Tech, part of the Office of Commercialization, this position assists in the commercialization of technology innovations at Georgia Tech in key areas of product-market fit, business strategy, fundraising, team development and/or other related areas as needed. This position will identify and grow innovation, commercialization, and startup efforts based on Georgia Tech's research and intellectual property in close coordination with the Director of Quadrant-i and the broader activities of the Chief Commercialization Officer.

Impact & Influence:

This position reports directly to the Director of Quadrant-i. The position requires regular interaction with all members of Quadrant-i including the Director, the Chief Commercialization Officer, other Principals within Quadrant-i and Georgia Tech's faculty, staff, and students. Additionally, this position may interact with constituents of the broader Atlanta area startup ecosystem, State of Georgia economic development officials, and national community of business leaders, angel investors, attorneys, and venture capitalists.

• Serve as a Quadrant-i Principal, working solo and in conjunction with other Quadrant-i Principals, facilitating the translation of Georgia Tech research and technology by guiding the development of new ventures. and as strategic consultant (in business model development and execution) for assigned Georgia Tech clients.

• Track and identify promising innovations with potential for significant market and societal impact.

• Manage the customer discovery process with commercialization stakeholders to identify market needs and business value propositions.

• Support faculty and students in the acceleration of technology maturation.

• Advise prospective founders and inventors on spin-out strategies.

• Cultivate and manage relationships between prospective business advisors, business partners, investors, and management teams.

• Support development of marketing materials and external pitch decks that highlight Georgia Tech's distinction in relevant research areas, working closely with communications/marketing teams.

• Direct and manage the application process for accessing non-dilutive funding sources such as the NSF I-Corps program and Georgia Research Alliance Innovations & Entrepreneurship grants and loan programs.

• Develop and support the delivery of entrepreneurial programs/events. Organize internal events to educate faculty on commercialization opportunities. Organize external facing activities and events to promote exchanges with potential funders and potential spinout co-Founders.

• Advocate for their clients for awards, conferences, and recognition.

• Perform administrative tasks and other related duties as assigned.

Extension Professional I

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Business, Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related/relevant field.

Extension Professional II

• A Master's degree in Engineering, Science, Business, Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related/relevant field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
• A Master's degree in Engineering, Science, Business, Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related/relevant field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
• A Doctoral degree in Engineering, Science, Business, Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related/relevant field.

Senior Extension Professional

• A Master's degree in Engineering, Science, Business, Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related/relevant field and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
• A Master's degree in Engineering, Science, Business, Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related/relevant field and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
• A Doctoral degree in Engineering, Science, Business, Technology, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related/relevant field and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Skills/Work Experience:

• Eight to ten years job-related work experience.
• Deep-domain expertise at both a business and technical level in the described industry verticals of AI/ML and related applications.

Preferred applicant backgrounds include:

• Founder of a technology startup or early-stage startup experience.
• Leadership experience managing a technology company.
• Leadership or supporting role in securing multiple rounds of financing (angel or venture).

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

• Insatiable curiosity with beginner's mind-set.
• Aptitude in learning new technologies quickly.
• Understand and translate concepts across broad spectrum of scientific and engineering disciplines.
• Represent Georgia Tech's interests within the business community.

Federal budgets will necessitate that for the desired skills and available budget, we may be hiring a qualified individual for a 75% appointment, depending upon the individual's experience and eligibility for higher rank.
