The clinical Nurse/RN is a professional caregiver who utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care to patients, and also provides teaching of groups to patients and families for a designated time frame. The clinical nurse also functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. The clinical nurse assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

2. Clinical Care |
a. Performs assessment and data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychologic and cognitive needs of the patient/family. Utilizes assessment data in formulating nursing diagnoses. |
b. Formulates a goal-directed plan of care which is prioritized and based on determined nursing diagnoses and expected patient outcomes. |
c. Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, safe, consistent and continuous manner by utilization of and adherence to predetermined standards which define the structure, process and desired patient outcomes of nursing process. |
d. Evaluates patient/family response to care given by all health care team members, and the effects of systems, environment and instrumentation on progress of patient toward expected outcomes. Reformulates plan of care based on changing patient needs and evaluation of effectiveness of care provided. |
e. Utilizes the primary nursing model in all aspects of the nursing process. |
f. Demonstrates competency in psychomotor skills. |
g. Performs all documentation functions in a timely, accurate and concise manner. |
h. Demonstrates current knowledge of nursing research developments and utilizes findings in patient care as appropriate. Participates in nursing and related health care research activities as requested. |
3. Patient Education |
a. Identifies patient/family learning needs, implements appropriate measures to meet these needs and evaluates patient/family response to education related to hospitalization and discharge. |
4. Knowledge Base |
a. Demonstrates knowledge of pediatric pathophysiology, injuries, growth and development. Applies this knowledge to patient care. Demonstrates knowledge in specific areas of: structure standards, standards of care, protocols, procedures, guidelines and patient care resources/references. |
b. Functions with an awareness and application of safety issues and adheres to patient/staff safety policies as identified within the institution. |
c. Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remains calm, informs appropriate persons, and documents events. |

Requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF BCH Oakland units other than ED and PACU, after 6 months of employment and completion of probationary period. The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Licensure/Certification:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of California
- Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification
- Current Healthcare Provider PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
