Summary
Research Lab Tech II supports the NIH-funded Metabolic Imaging Core (MMIC), a highly collaborative clinical research environment focused on metabolism and body composition, spanning metabolic, musculoskeletal, inflammatory diseases, and genetic disorders. MMIC provides advanced metabolic and body composition imaging, including MRI, MR spectroscopy (MRS), quantitative CT (QCT), and ultrasound, supported by specialized software and AI driven analysis tools. The Core delivers comprehensive research support across the full project lifecycle, from protocol development through image acquisition, quality assurance, and data interpretation, with a focus on standardized, high-quality, and reproducible imaging methods. The candidate will join a collaborative team working at the intersection of clinical imaging, artificial intelligence, and patient centered research. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the development and application of AI driven tools for imaging analysis, support innovative translational research, and interact directly with research participants while advancing methodologies that improve the understanding and treatment of metabolic and body composition disorders. Carries out a broad range of technically advanced research activities and procedures; evaluates conclusions and has considerable latitude to modify or devise methods and techniques as necessary to achieve desired results; typically supervises technical and sometimes administrative elements of the research unit. Does this position require Patient Care? No Essential Functions - Perform image acquisition focused on research MRI, MRS, CT, and Ultrasound - Develop, implement and oversee validation and integrity checks of collected imaging data - Process collected data using existing and newly developed programs - Develop software and/or hardware tools for Core use, with focus on image processing, computer vision and machine learning - Independently write and document clean, reusable code - Under supervision of Core Leadership, perform tasks related to billing and financials - Communicate research results through conference presentations, scientific publications, or project reports - Identify, recommend and draft process/protocol modifications - Attend and contribute to weekly and monthly, project and job specific meetings - Communicate with project staff, faculty, fellows and/or external agencies - Participate in scientific collaborative projects within the scope of the position and research mission - Create, design and implement documentation for standardization of data processes including - SOPs/MOPs and process specific guidelines - Act as internal resource for junior level research team members - Executes protocols of non-routine experiments. - Assists PI with determining the most suitable methodology. - Performs basic design and modification of protocols. - Calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data. - Prepares and presents reports. - Organizes and summarizes acquired data using scientific and Statistical Techniques. - Participates in the design of experiments or field work.
