ATI is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Facilities) to join our team in Cudahy, WI. This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys the combination of engineering design and project leadership. The Senior Facilities Engineer will support complex equipment and facility projects from concept and design through purchasing, installation, startup, and implementation.

The successful candidate will provide the engineering designs, drawings, calculations, specifications, instructions, and technical data required to support the manufacture, construction, operation, modification, and installation of machinery, tooling, equipment, buildings, and facilities. In addition to serving as a technical resource, this position will lead medium to large sized projects as the Project Manager, coordinating engineering, purchasing, installation, and startup activities. The role works with a high degree of independence under general supervision and partners closely with engineering, operations, maintenance, contractors, vendors, and other internal stakeholders.

What You'll Do

• Develop engineering designs and layouts using principles of complex stress analysis, mechanics, kinematics, machine and tool design, strength of materials, physics, mathematics, and other physical sciences.
• Work from instructions, layouts, specifications, and project requirements while maintaining responsibility for the accuracy, mathematical computations, and functional correctness of designs.
• Create complex assembly and detail drawings and prepare bills of material, specification sheets, procedures, instructions, and other required technical documentation.
• Evaluate new and existing machinery, tools, processes, equipment, buildings, and facilities to identify engineering solutions and recommend redesign, repair, replacement, or rebuilding when needed.
• Investigate equipment and facility challenges and develop practical engineering solutions to improve functionality, reliability, performance, and compliance with project requirements.
• Participate in shop-floor tryouts and implementation of new manufacturing methods, equipment, jobs, or processes.
• Lead medium to large-sized engineering and capital projects through design, purchasing, installation, and startup.
• Coordinate technical activities across projects, balancing engineering requirements, schedules, costs, manufacturability, and operational needs.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, technicians, maintenance personnel, operations teams, and representatives from other departments on the requirements and performance of machinery, equipment, buildings, and facilities.
• Provide technical direction to technicians, draftsmen, and/or engineers as needed.
• Maintain project and engineering records and prepare technical reports, documentation, and correspondence.
• Perform experimental, developmental, and shop follow-up work as required.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities.

Basic Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Science, or State registration in lieu of Degree.
• 5+ years' experience in area of Mechanical Design, Maintenance Engineering, or Project Management.

Preferred

• 5+ years experience in CapEx projects
• 5+ years experience in FEA or stress analysis
• Pneumatic or hydraulic experience

• Apply software to enhance job performance (i.e. AutoCAD Mechanical, AutoCAD Inventor, MS Project, Excel, Word, FEA).
• Must demonstrate good judgement in evaluation, selection, and modification and adoption of engineering techniques and procedures.
• Must demonstrate originality and ingenuity in solution of engineering problems.
• Is expected to carry out specific job assignments with only a definition of objectives and with minimum of technical supervision.
• Must possess a high degree of awareness of responsibility, cost, productivity, and manufacturability.

What Success Looks Like

The successful Senior Facilities Engineer will be comfortable moving between technical engineering work and project execution. This individual will be able to take an engineering challenge from initial problem definition through design and implementation while effectively coordinating the people, equipment, vendors, timelines, and technical requirements necessary to complete the project.

We're looking for an engineer who can independently solve complex mechanical and facility-related problems, communicate effectively across functions, and bring both strong engineering fundamentals and practical project execution experience to the team.
