Purchasing Manager Job Purpose: We are seeking an ambitious, high-energy Purchasing Manager to lead supply chain operations for our new manufacturing facility in Houston. This greenfield project focuses on high-complexity industrial power products, including transformers and switchgear. You will design supply chain workflows from the ground up, partner with global teams to manage international suppliers, navigate trade costs, and lead a growing procurement team. Nature of Duties:
- Supply Chain Setup: Build procurement workflows, vendor onboarding processes, and purchasing protocols for a new facility setup.
- Team Leadership: Direct and mentor a core team of Buyers, establishing performance metrics and operational goals.
- Global Sourcing & Material Qualification: Partner with global supply chain teams to identify, evaluate, and qualify alternative global suppliers and materials to ensure supply resilience and cost optimization.
- International Supplier Management: Negotiate pricing, contracts, and delivery schedules directly with international vendors to secure competitive terms.
- Logistics & Trade Cost Management: Manage overall landed costs by actively tracking freight/shipping expenses, international logistics, and tariff/duty impacts.
- Commodity & Material Sourcing: Oversee the purchasing of core raw materials (copper, aluminum, electrical steel, and specialty fluids) while tracking global market trends.
- Electrical & Custom Parts Procurement: Coordinate purchasing for specialized equipment, custom-fabricated parts, and core components like bushings, relays, and circuit breakers.
- Lead Time & Inventory Planning: Track long-lead items to prevent production delays and align stock levels with operational targets.
- Cost & Performance Tracking: Manage Purchase Price Variance (PPV), apply Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models, and protect plant margins.
Education and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field required.
- Professional Experience: 5+ years of progressive procurement experience in heavy manufacturing, power distribution, or electrical equipment.
- Global Supply Chain & Logistics: Proven track record negotiating with international vendors, managing global freight/shipping logistics, and navigating tariffs and import dynamics.
- Industry Focus: Background with transformers, switchgear, or medium/high-voltage industrial equipment is strongly preferred.
- Systems Expertise: Strong proficiency in Tier-1 ERP systems (such as Oracle or SAP) to manage complex procurement data.
- Technical Fluency: Ability to read technical drawings, understand Bills of Materials (BOMs), and communicate effectively with custom fabrication vendors.
