Overview

Ready to shape the future of science and global health? A global nonprofit that provides trusted biological materials for science and health, ATCC is hiring a Senior Director, Facilities, Engineering & EHS to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of Facilities, Engineering, and EHS functions. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role leads a multidisciplinary team and serves as a key advisor on operational resilience, business continuity, and enterprise risk management and strategic planning for infrastructure and equipment.
The Senior Director, Facilities, Engineering & EHS, will drive operational excellence, infrastructure reliability, engineering technical expertise, quality and regulatory compliance and safety culture. This includes oversight of capital planning, engineering projects to support ATCC's strategic growth, asset lifecycle management, sustainability, and readiness for operations at all ATCC sites.


Responsibilities

    Oversight of ATCC's EHS programs: Ensure safety and compliance including: Environmental Protection & Compliance, Occupational Safety & Worker Protection, Biosafety, Industrial Hygiene & Exposure Control. Scope includes federal, state, and local environmental regulations; oversee hazardous, biological, and mixed waste programs, manage air emissions and HEPA systems, and maintain environmental permits while driving sustainability initiatives, OSHA compliance, support IBC activities and ensure compliance with NIH and CDC guidelines; verify containment systems and oversee industrial hygiene monitoring and medical surveillance programs
  • Facilities & Infrastructure Performance, Operational Excellence, and Strategic Planning: Ensure optimal performance of infrastructure including HVAC, laboratories, freezers, and bioresource archives; oversee preventive maintenance, engineering projects, and security systems to achieve on-time, on-budget delivery. Support strategic planning to ensure facilities and equipment required to meet ATCC's strategic roadmap are implemented on time in a cost-effective manner.
  • Engineering Expertise: Provide oversight for the Engineering team to ensure they can provide technical expertise and proactive planning to support the R&D, Operations, Supply chain functions to effectively execute ATCC's strategic plan.
  • Capital Planning & Lifecycle Management: Partner with Quality/Validation to ensure lifecycle management for critical systems, including qualification, periodic review, and data integrity, while leading capital planning and expansion initiatives.
  • External Stakeholder Engagement: Proactively engage external partners and stakeholder include Environment compliance and safety regulatory bodies, utilities, local government bodies to proactively address emerging trends and risks as relevant to biologics R&D /Manufacturing facility operations.
  • Leadership & Talent Development: Lead and develop multidisciplinary teams across EH&S, Facilities, and Engineering to ensure readiness for current and future business needs. Drive an internal customer oriented approach to ensure the team can prioritize based on risk and business need.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 18 or more years' experience, including 4+ years of supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience (PhD + 11 years or Masters + 16 years).
  • Progressive leadership experience in Facilities management and EHS within life sciences, biopharma, R&D+Manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and operate with autonomy in a complex, regulated biologics manufacturing and research environment
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NIH, CDC, and state/local regulations.
  • Expertise in biosafety, industrial hygiene, and environmental compliance.
  • Proven track record of driving Operational excellence and management of large Operations and capital budgets.
  • Preferred: Experience in providing oversight of a network of sites (R&D and manufacturing) and successful greenfield biologics facility start-ups is a plus.
  • Experience in engaging a complex group of external relevant to biologics R&D /Manufacturing facility operations.


Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $200,000 to $230,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
