Under the direction of the Director, Undergraduate Programs for the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences (DBSICS), the Manager, Undergraduate Programs serves as the lead undergraduate academic advisor assisting major, minor, and prospective students on their academic progress and informing them about degree requirements. Additionally, the Manager will supervise, evaluate, and train DBSICS undergraduate academic advisors in the DBSICS Undergraduate Student Affairs Office (SAO) to manage academic advising functions and achieve unit, School, and University objectives and goals.

Supervise, train, evaluate, and support assigned members of the DBSICS SAO staff on academic advising procedures and office procedures.

Develop, manage, and conduct campus and online academic advising sessions for new and prospective students.

Manage internal office procedures, including student data management workflows, routine student academic paperwork processing, office procedures, and office communications, including making decisions on routine requests within the scope of their authority.

Work with the Director, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education, faculty, staff, and other offices as assigned to resolve student issues, develop or update processes, support unit goals, and revise or create policy.

Expected pay range for this position is: $71,600.00 - $85,550.00 / year


Your Role on the Team

Supervises Student Services Advisors providing advice to students within departments, schools, or colleges, involving a variety of student issues such as academic advising, outreach and recruitment, admissions, departmental requirements, student intervention, career counseling, and financial aid. Participates with department management in the development and monitoring of policies and procedures for Student Services operations. May represent the student services function on committees and other organization entities.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
  • Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements.
  • Ability in problem identification and reasoning.
  • Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems using persuasion and leadership.
  • Skill in supervising others as demonstrated by at least three years' experience.
  • Ability to evaluate student academic records, including transcripts, grade point averages, course equivalencies, and degree audits.
  • Skills in conflict management, having challenging conversations, and supporting students expressing difficulties. Knowledge of when to refer to supervisor or other relevant resources.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through writing and verbally, both one-on-one and to groups, including prospective students, current students, families, visitors, and colleagues, about academic requirements, policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data related to student enrollment, course management, student success, academic progress, or other Schoolwide trends to identify challenges / opportunities, make recommendations, and support unit operations.
  • Ability to manage, execute, and balance multiple projects and workflows to ensure efficient office operation. Ability to appraise supervisor, supervisees, and colleagues of internal systems' status and delegate responsibilities to others appropriately within authority and the scope of the project.
  • Experience with a personal computer, standard office productivity software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite, learning management systems, student information systems), and standard office equipment.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
  • Knowledge of ability in interpreting, executing, and complying with relevant federal, state, local, University, and School policies, such as FERPA, DBSICS policy, and the UC Irvine Academic Catalog.
  • Skill in supervising full-time professional staff in a higher education setting.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $$71,600.00- $$85,550.00 (Annual).
