WORK ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

This position is responsible for a number of tasks including:

  • Processing invoices received from vendors for a $7.9 million operating budget which includes processing inmate medical invoices for payment using Medicaid reimbursement rates.
  • Preparing monthly, quarterly or annual invoices for services provided by the Sheriff's Department. The Fiscal Specialist position prepares on average 40 invoices a month.
  • Entering journals to charge internal departments for services provided by the Sheriff's Department.
  • Entering requisitions and purchase orders for items needed by the Department. This position also purchases items directly from vendors using a department purchasing card.
  • Allocating credit cards monthly for all staff who have a department purchasing cards. The Department has approximately 15 purchasing cards.
  • Processing expense reports for staff travel and assisting with travel reconciliations once staff return from conferences or training sessions.
  • Acting as a backup for the Department's Fiscal Specialist responsible for payroll entry.

This position interacts regularly with staff in Accounting, Purchasing, Treasurer's Office, Public Works, and the Sheriff's Department. This position also interacts with individuals external to the county such as vendors, service providers, and entities who receive services from the Sheriff's Department.

The interested candidate must have strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Excel. The interested candidate must exhibit teamwork qualities, strong communication and customer service skills, as well as ability to handle work assignments independently and efficiently.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements
1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Three years of post high school work experience in finance or accounting.
3. Post high school education from a recognized college or university in accounting, finance, business, or a closely related field may be substituted for the work experience requirement on a year-for-year basis.
