THE POSITION

If so, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is looking for an diligent Environmental Planner 1 to play a key role in conducting air quality research and data review to support statewide environmental goals. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports air quality planning efforts by helping gather data, prepare documents, and assist staff with technical and administrative tasks. Through your work, you will help to ensure accurate planning information and strong support for key environmental programs. As an Environmental Planner 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Training Support: Coordinate air quality training offerings and assist staff with planning and scheduling needs
  • Data Research: Collect and organize air quality information for emissions inventories and planning analysis
  • Program Tracking: Monitor activities and accounting transactions for mobile source grant and incentive programs
  • Document Processing: Review and route air quality documents to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements
  • Partner Coordination: Work with EPA, Mid-Atlantic Air Management Association (MARAMA), and other organizations to schedule and support training opportunities
  • Information Entry: Input data into agency systems and help improve program processes through continuous improvement efforts

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in planning or environmental planning; and one year of professional experience in local, regional, or state environmental planning; or
  • Two years of professional experience in local, regional, or state environmental planning; or
  • A Master's degree in environmental planning; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
