Mead & Hunt, an award-winning national architecture and engineering firm, has continued to exceed our strategic growth initiatives creating opportunity for our current and prospective team members. As a result, a full-time position is available for a Senior Project Designer / Project Manager at our Lexington (SC) office or remote in the state of North Carolina for the candidate with the right aptitude and ability. This exciting opportunity will lead project teams focused on delivering architectural and engineering services for federal facilities, airports, and other projects, playing a key role in expanding Mead & Hunt's growing markets.

Responsibilities include:

  • Planning and designing structures in accordance with environmental, safety, or other regulations
  • Preparing contract documents, including drawings and specifications using Revit or other tools
  • Provide QA/QC for assigned projects
  • Coordinating multi-disciplinary in-house and sub-consultant team members
  • Working closely with clients, contractors and internal design/build partners
  • Serving as a project architect on complex projects
  • Coordinating and leading project teams
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Developing and executing project workplans
  • Mentoring younger technical staff and serving as a lead technical resource
  • Scheduling and facilitating team and client meetings
  • Visiting project sites to monitor construction progress and handle construction administration
  • Developing and delivering presentations to clients, partners, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
  • May lead the development of marketing materials, proposals, or presentations to generate new work opportunities
  • May prepare and/or monitor budgets and work in progress for specific projects or tasks.
  • Preparing scoping documents, pricing, fee estimates, and marketing strategies for proposed projects
  • Reviewing client billings and may assist with invoicing and accounts receivable
  • Other tasks as assigned.

The successful candidate must have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in architecture or related field from an accredited college or university
  • At least 7 years of relevant project experience of which at least 2 years must be at the project manager level

OR

  • If no degree, must have at least 11 years of relevant project experience of which at least 2 years must be at the project manager level.

A valid driver's license and travel (approximately 25%) will be required.

The ideal candidate will have any/all the following:

  • Experience leading architectural teams through each stage of project development for food & beverage and industrial facilities
  • Experience interfacing with clients and stakeholders
  • Experience mentoring younger technical staff
  • Experience leading architectural teams preliminary design through construction documents, bidding and construction administration phase services for industrial facilities
  • NCARB Certified
  • Business development experience - seeking out and following through on new project opportunities in coordination with a team
  • Experience or familiarity with generative AI-driven tools, platforms, or systems (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) to enhance productivity, automate tasks, and reduce errors.
