The Channing Division of Network Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital is looking for exceptional Bioinformatician to join the Systems Genetics and Genomics group to advance research in respiratory disease, with a focus on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the third leading cause of death in the United States. Our group has led some of the largest and most comprehensive genetic and multi-omit studies in this disease, including identifying novel genetic associations and performing functional studies to identify new disease pathways. Bioinformaticians will work with an interdisciplinary team, consisting of geneticists and genetic epidemiologists, biostatisticians, computational biologists, and translational scientists and

Qualifications:

BS degree and 1-3 years programming experience developing software solutions or MS in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or biological engineering.

Applicants will have understanding programming with agile development methods.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

- Ability to apply statistical and machine learning techniques to solve ' big data ' problems

- Experience in Programing with MATLAB, R, Python and/or Java that focus on computational biological applications.

- Experience with common bioinformatics and genomic browsers [NCBI, Genbank, UCSC]

- Understanding the user of bioinformatics tools including common NGS tools [BWA, samtools, GATK]

- Ability to work in a highly collaborative and intellectually challenging environment. Perform the technology watch;

contribute to the strategy and evolution of existing services, as well as future architecture evolution around communication

platforms

- Knowledge of Linux (Ubuntu)

- Must work independently

- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
