Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Finance Manager, provide administrative and analytical support for contract and grant pre and post awards in the Food Chain cluster, which supports both Animal Science and Nutrition within the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences. Both are very complex and active academic departments with a diverse range of funding sources. Work in a highly independent capacity managing complex proposals, budgets and funding sources ensuring comprehensive and accurate budget construction. Collect, analyze, and summarize financial information for sponsor specific and special reports. Provide effort reporting and financial reports to the PI, sponsor and EFA. Work with Principal Investigators to analyze programmatic needs, make recommendations and resolve any issues. Analyze and manage financial data from a variety of revenue streams, including state and federal grants, private grants, endowments, self-supporting funds, startup funds, rate accounts, gifts, and other funding sources. Serve as one of the department compliance experts in University Policy & Procedures for all departmental business processes, including financial, personnel, and visa procedures as they relate to intramural, extramural, and general funding.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Experience in financial analysis, forecasting and strategic planning to analyze and Compile financial data and reports
  • Experience recognizing and responding to problems with cost Recovery, invoices, accounts, and payroll
  • Experience controlling complex budgets, Accounting and personnel functions including detailed budget preparation, contract and grant budget proposals, purchasing, payroll, ledger reconciliation, and fiscal close
  • Experience with federal and private compliance Regulations governing grant budgeting, financial reporting, cost-sharing Standards, cost allocation, and policies regarding use of grant funds.
  • Experience using automated financial and payroll/personnel systems including experience writing and proofreading clear, grammatically accurate documents and email
  • Computer skills to Utilize various programs and software for Word processing, spreadsheets, and website applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification research Administrator (CRA) Certification through the research Administrator Certification Council (RACC), or equivalent Experience
  • Must be able to complete the UCD RACS courses within the first 12 months
  • Bachelors degree in Finance or business or Equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of cost allocation methods

Department Overview

The Food Chain Cluster provides administrative and technical support to the multidisciplinary academic departments of Animal Science and Nutrition within the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The cluster serves more than 470 employees including 63 senate faculty, 73 academic federation members, 102 staff, 108 graduate student employees, 101 undergraduate student employees, and 26 postdoctoral scholars housed in more than 25 buildings.

Department Specific Job Scope

This is a critical position that independently creates proposal budgets for federal, state and private sponsors. They oversee research funds and ensure funds are accurately spent. This senior position on the team works with some of our busiest faculty members that submit high dollar, very complex grants with multiple sub awards and multi-million dollar funding. It is an essential position to ensure there are no disruptions to faculty research activities and funds.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
