Covia is looking for a dynamic Maintenance Supervisor who will have a positive impact on the Operations team at its Cleburne, TX location. The Maintenance Supervisor will supervise, schedule, and direct the maintenance work and coordinate with other supervisors to accomplish daily maintenance requirements for mobile equipment, stationary equipment, plant buildings, and other facilities.

The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities:



  • Provide Safety Leadership through regular safety inspections of all operating areas and reinforcing safe behaviors with all hourly employees. Reinforce "Going for Zero" (GFZ) behaviors.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and Toolbox Talks.
  • Ensure all maintenance personnel are adhering to best safety practices and completing SLAM Risks assessments.
  • Ensure that all employees are aware of all applicable safety guidelines and that they follow them including permit utilization, LOTO, pre-use inspection, among others.
  • Proceed with disciplinary action for employees who do not follow safety or operating procedures.
  • Ensure that the workplace is inspected on a routine basis and is safe.
  • Implement and administer the Controlled Maintenance Program and achieve a 90% or better availability rate.
  • Recommend changes in standards, work methods and procedures to improve performance, productivity and profitability.
  • Recommend equipment and process modifications to improve efficiencies.
  • Maintain open communications with subordinates, superiors, and peers, both verbally and by written report.
  • Coordinate day to day work execution with outside contractors performing maintenance related and capital project tasks.
  • Execute daily work from the weekly Maintenance schedule. Continually communicate with operations to coordinate equipment downtime needs to execute scheduled work.
  • Distribute scheduled work orders to maintenance workers and oversee jobs from start to finish to assure quality and timely repairs are being performed.
  • Close out work orders daily including total man-hours spent on the job and materials used.
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Planner/Warehouse Supervisor to plan out jobs. This includes man hour estimates (task duration), material needs, and equipment needs.
  • Plan and execute break in jobs as they arise. These jobs will break into the current week's schedule and require additional oversite to assure that employees are competent to perform the task and do it safely.
  • Keep track of maintenance hours spent on any Capital Projects so that can be expensed.
  • Know where to get parts and/or materials, or where to have something fabricated in case the Purchasing Agent or Maintenance Planner/Warehouse Supervisor is not available.
  • Ensure that all employees have the proper training to complete their assigned job during each shift that is worked and provide training when needed.
  • Ensure that all employees have the proper equipment and tools to perform their jobs. This includes all safety equipment (PPE) and clothing.
  • Ensure that regular housekeeping is performed to maintain the appearance of the plant. A clean, well-maintained plant helps boost employee morale and lend itself to a more efficient and safer operating plant.
  • Ensure that the plant follows all applicable state and federal regulations regarding waste disposal (oil, anti-freeze, etc.) air (dust in atmosphere, etc.) and water pollutants, stripping and reclamation laws.
  • Work to improve the plant environment by continuously improving upon operating practices and procedures in regard to both safety and efficiency.
  • Work to improve the quality of the final product through new or better practices and procedures.
  • Routinely check your Project List and complete the projects in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to current Purchasing Policies and Procedures when parts, goods or services from outside vendors and contractors.
  • Provide cost analysis and recommendations for mobile equipment replacement.



The successful incumbent will have the following Minimum Qualifications:



  • 3-5 years of relevant maintenance experience required
  • 2 years of demonstrated supervisory experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
