Mandatory Position

This position is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position
This position is the Building Environmental Services Third Shift Floor Care Supervisor for the Center City team, responsible for directing and overseeing personnel and procedures of all shifts of the Building Services unit during the standard Sunday - Thursday work week and on the weekend as building and programmatic needs dictate. The Supervisor must ensure excellent customer service, floor care and accurate set ups, personnel management, and APPA Level II quality cleaning while adhering to LEED Silver and GS 42, green cleaning standards. This position manages the Building Services unit and directly supervises Building Services employees.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, and one (1) year of experience in the area assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Job Duties
The University of North Carolina Charlotte Facilities Management department is seeking an outgoing motivated person to join our staff as a Building Environmental Services ( BES) Supervisor at the Center City Building. Duties include, but are not limited to:



  • Providing supervision for a third-shift team of up to three custodial personnel in performance of duties at the Center City Building in uptown Charlotte.
  • Assigning and scheduling work; establishing individual workloads and assigning personnel to specific work areas.
  • Maintaining supply inventory.
  • Training, counseling and evaluating performance of employees.
  • Preparing personnel action memorandums; interviewing and recommending personnel for filling vacant positions.
  • Approving leave and submitting time sheets in the Kronos timekeeping system and providing absentee lists to supervisor.
  • Maintaining equipment inventory and repairing records; compiling maintenance checklist and reporting needs to the supervisor.
  • Performing daily inspections and correcting deficiencies.
  • Testing and making recommendations on supply and equipment purchases.

Other Work Responsibilities
Perform and over see duties that are repetitive in nature and include physically strenuous activities such as:

  • Moving furniture
  • Operating heavy cleaning equipment
  • Wearing a back pack vacuum
  • Delivering large quantities of housekeeping supplies.


Responsible for:

  • Properly using and caring for all manual and power equipment, and chemicals required in Building Environmental Services and floor care functions.
  • Enforcing established Facilities Management, UNC Charlotte, and State policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrating the proper use of and instructing team members in the proper use and care of all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in floor maintenance, custodial, recycling, event support, and exterior litter removal functions.
  • Performing other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations of Building Environmental Services.

Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • Supervisory experience
  • Ability to demonstrate the proper use of and instruct team members in the proper use and care of all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in floor maintenance, custodial, recycling, event support, and exterior litter removal functions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (reading, writing, interpretation and comprehension) required.
  • Effective skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communications as well as computer literacy as well as knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.
  • Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds as well as the ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
