The mission of the USC Rossier School of Education is to prepare leaders to achieve educational equity through practice, research and policy. We work to improve learning opportunities and outcomes in urban settings and to address disparities that affect historically marginalized groups. We teach our students to value and respect the cultural context of the communities in which they work and to interrogate the systems of power that shape policies and practices. Through innovative thinking and research, we strive to solve the most in-tractable educational problems. The Math Mentor in the USC Mathematics Instructional Advancement Alliance (MIAA) program provides instructional and candidate support as a knowledgeable practitioner in mathematics teaching and learning. The Math Mentor works closely with teacher candidates across MIAA coursework to support their development of mathematics content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge, and equitable instructional practices. The selected mentor will engage with candidates through online platforms, including Zoom and the Learning Management System, provide guidance on assignments and fieldwork-related learning, and support candidates in analyzing student work, reflecting on instructional decisions, and connecting course concepts to classroom practice. The Math Mentor will maintain regular communication with candidates and collaborate with faculty and program staff to promote candidate success and continuous program improvement. Required Qualifications: This position requires a minimum of five years of full-time experience as a P-12 mathematics teacher in a diverse school setting. Experience supporting adult learners, mentoring teachers, or serving in teacher leadership roles related to mathematics teaching and learning is strongly preferred. Candidates must hold a California Clear Credential in Foundational or Single Subject Mathematics with English Learner Authorization, or equivalent. Experience with online learning platforms, including Zoom and a Learning Management System, is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, the ability to work effectively with diverse groups, current knowledge of California adopted P-12 mathematics content standards and frameworks, and a commitment to advancing educational equity in mathematics teaching and learning. The base salary range for this position is $7,457- $9,587 per course. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
