Description

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a skilled Senior CAD Designer to join our Transportation and Infrastructure Unit within the Ohio River Valley sector. This role is based in our Fishers, Indiana office and offers the opportunity to contribute to challenging bridge and roadway projects in a collaborative, team-oriented environment that supports professional growth and career development.

Key Responsibilities



  • Develop and produce design plans for transportation projects, including bridges and roadways
  • Perform calculations related to structural geometry, reinforcing bar layouts, and quantity takeoffs
  • Lead and manage CAD tasks to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Provide guidance and direction to junior engineers and CAD staff
  • Ensure adherence to company standards, procedures, and applicable DOT requirements


Qualifications



  • Experience working with Indiana DOT and/or DOT agencies in Ohio, Kentucky, or West Virginia
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Bentley software required
  • Experience with OpenRoads Designer (ORD) preferred
  • NBIS bridge inspection experience is a plus
  • Strong technical and organizational skills with attention to detail

  • 10+ years of relevant CAD/design experience

  • Serves as a task manager for small to mid-sized projects
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and company procedures
  • Strong problem-solving and technical expertise within area of specialization


Project & Team Leadership



  • Manage assigned tasks, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget
  • Support project leadership with scope definition, budgeting, and scheduling input
  • Mentor and assist team members to maintain productivity and quality standards


Communication & Collaboration



  • Effectively communicate with engineers, project managers, and CAD designers across teams
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure coordinated project delivery


Additional Requirements



  • Valid driver's license

  • Advanced level of skills. Strives to become proficient in aspects of the software. Seeks toadvance his or her knowledge of project design development. Stays current on software updates and advises based on technical changes. Promotes and instructs others on advanced techniques and new methods

Education



  • Associate Degree from an accredited Technical School orequivalent experience


Technical Responsibilities



  • Performs and guides others ondeliverables withfocus on adherence toCADstandards, software utilization and data management procedures; and ability to independently perform analyses
  • Maintains an overall 'BigPicture" approach to the ongoing development, maintenance and adherence toCAD Standards and data management procedures and makes recommendations tosupervisors


Project and Task Management



  • Responsible for personal task management and adherence todeadlines and scope


Management Responsibility



  • Focuses a significant effort tomentoring lower-level CAD Operators. Provides solutions to unique problems. cites insufficiencies and supplies recommendations.
  • Given general instructions and works independently with minimal supervision. Receives general review ofproject work


Communication Skills



  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Facilitates interaction among staff. Able to effectively coach and mentor lower-level CAD Staff. Interacts closely and effectively with Project Team. Interacts and advises at regular project meetings
