LOCATION: Houston, TX (Johnson Space Center)

JOB STATUS:Full-time

CLEARANCE: Currently possess or able to obtain Public Trust

TRAVEL:Limited; as needed

Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Software Safety Engineer to support NASA Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA), the primary purpose is to assure that software products are safe and capable of performing required safety functions.

Under the supervision of more senior engineers, perform engineering assessments and analyses on the assigned Program, Commercial Vehicles (manned and unmanned) payloads and experiments that areflown on International or commercial vehicles:

  1. Assure that software safety design and operations specifications and products meet Gateway Program Safety & Mission Assurance (S&MA) software safety requirements.
  2. Assess software development, test, verification, and change products and identify problems and noncompliance's.
  3. Prepare reports, present findings of assessments and evaluations, and provide recommendations to the NASA S&MA Software Team Manager.
  4. Participate in Safety Panel Reviews
  5. Participate in anomaly assessment processes and evaluate safety compliance of proposed on-orbit software modifications.
  6. Participate in, and represent software S&MA assurance, as appropriate and as required in working groups, panels and boards in order to perform the above described tasks.
  7. Work with customers - NASA, contractors, and International Partners.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS:

  • 5+ years related experience
  • BS degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an accredited University

  • Excellent oral and above average written communications skills
  • Ability to develop excellent working relationships with customers, peers, and management
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office to prepare reports, presentations, and charts
  • Basic knowledge and use of personal computers with typical business software (is mandatory i.e., word processing, spreadsheets, presentation graphics) is mandatory
  • Familiarity with the NASA organizations and processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are mandatory
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Currently possess or Able to Obtain Govt. background check contingency: Public Trust

  • Travel % Required: 5%

Desired Skills:

  • NASA system flight safety review process experience.
  • Familiarity with the NASA organizations and with the various programs
  • Experience with direct participation in conducting and documenting space system safety review
  • An understanding of system safety hazards analysis process.
