JOB SUMMARY

The Mechanical Technician IV carries out assignments concerned with the fabrication of test stands, assembly of development/prototype units, integration testing and troubleshooting of mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment and systems that may include hydraulics, refrigeration or coolant loops. Works under limited supervision, performing assignments of medium and high complexity individually, with peers, assisting junior and senior engineers and working cooperatively with other departments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Under limited supervision and with latitude for unreviewed action, perform engineering technician assignments supporting integration and testing of development/prototype units, test stand development and fabrication, troubleshooting of development/prototype units including legacy products and the performance of field support.
  • Support integration and testing of development/prototype units that involve mechanical assembly, harness and cable installation, refrigerant charging and recovery.
  • Support the building, setup and maintenance of test stands that include part fabrication (machining, lathe, sheet metal including bending) of mechanical parts, mechanical assembly, harness and cable installation, refrigerant charging and recovery.
  • Assist in the trouble shooting and repair of development/prototype units and legacy products.
  • Support the modification of components during rapid prototyping and iterative development of products including clear and accurate redline markups of engineering documents. Assist with drawing markups and design for manufacturing.
  • Interpret and work from preliminary or released engineering documents.
  • Provide feedback to engineering regarding design improvement, component selection, manufacturability and assembly processes.
  • Provide field support both domestic and international that may include system installation and removal, upgrades or modifications and training.
  • Support the test, qualification, and production handoff of mechanical and electro-mechanical components, sub-systems and primary systems.
  • Work individually and collaboratively work with colleagues within the department and in other departments.
  • Adhere to safety protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: High school diploma and 7+ years related experience and/or training. Technical school a plus.
  • Ability to work individually and collaboratively work with all colleagues.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures exactly and make minor decisions if following an established procedure.
  • Experience with various machining equipment including mill, lathe and sheet metal tools; hand power tools; standard tool set including sockets, wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, and similar.
  • Ability to work under pressure and against deadlines as necessary.
  • Computer proficient (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams).
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Must be able to obtain DoD security clearance.
  • Must be a US citizen.
