Position Summary

Responsibility for leading operations Marine and Shipping & Receiving Value Steams. Implements under the direction of the Plant Manager of the Parker Lean system and Win Strategy to ensure a safe work environment, drive quality improvements, provide premier customer service, develop a qualified workforce, reduce operating costs, inventories and lead times through continuous improvements. Oversee day-to-day activities to meet daily, monthly, quarterly and annual expectations.

Responsible for developing and leading team members, employment decisions and performance assessments of an assigned plant value streams. Responsible for leading all aspects of the plant value streams under the direction of the Plant Manager to include team member development, utilization of team consensus to evaluate decisions, ensure rapid implementation of decisions, budget development and adherence, employment decisions related to team members and performance assessment of Group Leads and team members.

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities:

  • Leads the plant value streams in daily operations and continuous improvements, which include but are not limited to: supply chain, production control, manufacturing priorities and coordination between all shifts in the value streams. The Value Stream Team Leader will assist the Plant Manager to create continuous product flow, utilize pull systems and to level the workload.

  • Create the basis for continuous improvement and employee empowerment by ensuring that standardized work and processes are followed, needed adjustments are implemented and the area is compliant with safety and 5S requirements.

  • Instill and maintain a positive team atmosphere in the Value Stream(s); hold regular team meetings and assign team member tasks and coordinate support activities form departments outside of the team. Utilize PDCA in conjunction with Tracking Centers and Team Improvement Boards to ensure results.

  • Provide effective cross training for Value Stream associates and backups from other value streams to assure the continuous smooth running of the value stream. Encourage team to stop and fix problems in order to get quality right the first time.

  • Work with the Plant Manager to develop the future state value stream map and manage the plans to achieve it as documented in the Value Steam Tracking Center. In addition, the Team Leader works with the Group Leader and the Value Stream Team to maintain Team Improvement Boards. A visually controlled environment must be developed to assure no problems are hidden.

  • Supervises all modes of transportation (truck, rail, airplane, sea) to ensure the most cost efficient and customer sensitive methods are utilized following established corporate Logistic programs. Participates with management to resolve shipping and receiving delays managing cost associated from unpredictable conditions (changing priorities, material shortages, quality difficulties, labor shortages).

  • Assists with, or independently, interviews, selects and negotiates local transportation supplier activity for pricing, strategic timing of material handling, shipping container/packaging, processing of damage claims and international transportation handling.

  • Position may directly or indirectly manage company outbound warehousing/distribution network logistics or supplier inbound inventory logistics of materials. Works with management to determine within single or multi-plant production facilities the most cost efficient utilization of production resources for on time delivery and minimization overall cost.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education, Credentials and Previous Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

  • 3- 5 years' management or supervisory experience.

  • Sufficient background in accounting, PC skills, manufacturing, human resource management and inventory control.

  • Demonstrated teamwork and team-building skills. Ability to assess and develop individual and team skills and capabilities. Able to create and maintain enthusiasm for challenges. Serve as model by promoting safety, new ideas and positive change.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with LEAN teams or leading LEAN teams is preferred.

Problem Solving and Analytical Skills:

  • In coordination with team members, initiate contact with other support groups to resolve problems.
  • Apply structured problem-solving skills to help drive improvement activities, Lean and Kaizen projects, HPT and TIB meetings.
  • Provide suggestions for improvement.
  • Consistently open to change and new ideas.
  • Application and knowledge of pareto charts, 5Y, Fish Bone Diagram and 10 Step Problem Solving.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • May be required to stand, sit or alternate between sitting and standing for 8+ hours at a time, based on business needs.
  • Frequent lifting or moving of lightweight (<20 lbs.) materials, occasional lifting to 25 lbs. without assistance.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment as required, may include safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, and/or any other equipment deemed necessary.
  • Able to work in a non-air-conditioned plant year-round.

  • Pay Range: $83250 to $132150 annually
  • Participation in Annual Incentive Program
