Job Summary

The Data Center Technician I is an entry-level position responsible for supporting the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of critical electrical, mechanical, cooling, and fire/life safety systems within a mission-critical data center environment. This role assists with routine inspections, preventive maintenance, customer infrastructure support, and troubleshooting activities while working alongside experienced technicians. Candidates with a skilled trades background, including electrical, HVAC, mechanical, industrial maintenance, or military technical experience, are encouraged to apply.

Job Responsibilities




  • Monitor and operate critical electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and fire/life safety systems.



  • Perform routine facility inspections and document equipment status and findings.



  • Assist with preventive maintenance activities on power and cooling infrastructure.



  • Respond to alarms and abnormal operating conditions under established procedures.



  • Support customer infrastructure projects, including rack installation, cabling, and power connections.



  • Assist with electrical distribution equipment, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, and power distribution units.



  • Support the operation and maintenance of cooling systems, including CRAC/CRAH units, chilled water systems, pumps, and related mechanical equipment.



  • Monitor fire protection systems and report deficiencies or abnormal conditions.



  • Utilize maintenance management and ticketing systems to document work performed and track maintenance activities.



  • Collaborate with team members, contractors, vendors, and customers to support daily operations.



  • Follow all safety procedures, operational standards, and company policies.



  • Perform other duties as assigned.




Job Requirements




  • Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.



  • Skilled trades experience in electrical, HVAC, mechanical, industrial maintenance, construction, telecommunications, or military technical fields is preferred.



  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment using established procedures.



  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn mission-critical infrastructure.



  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.



  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.



  • Basic computer skills and ability to utilize maintenance management software.



  • Ability to safely use hand tools and basic testing equipment.



  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and participate in on-call support as required.



  • Openness to occasional travel when business needs require.



  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and stand or walk for extended periods.



  • Must successfully complete pre-employment background screening and other employment requirements.




Education




  • High school diploma or equivalent required.



  • Technical, vocational, military, or trade school training is preferred.
