Job Description

The Director of Web Strategy is a strategic, hands-on leader responsible for the vision, architecture, performance, and continuous evolution of Missouri S&T's web ecosystem. This role bridges strategy and delivery, connecting institutional priorities, audience needs, technology, accessibility, and content strategy to create high-performing, user-centered digital experiences that drive awareness, engagement, and conversion.

Key Responsibilities:

Web Strategy & Governance

  • Lead the strategic vision for Missouri S&T's web ecosystem, ensuring alignment with institutional goals, brand strategy, and audience needs
  • Establish and enforce governance models, standards, and best practices across web architecture, design systems, content structure, accessibility, and performance
  • Balance central oversight with distributed publishing needs - enabling consistency while empowering campus partners to serve their audiences effectively

Web Architecture, Development & Execution

  • Provide both strategic leadership and direct hands-on contribution to web development, architecture decisions, and complex implementations
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and optimization of Missouri S&T's primary websites, templates, and supporting platforms
  • Evaluate and guide adoption of CMS platforms, integrations, hosting environments, and third-party tools - making principled decisions that serve long-term institutional needs

User Experience & Audience-Centered Design

  • Champion user-centered design and information architecture grounded in research, analytics, and usability testing
  • Translate audience needs and behaviors into intuitive navigation, clear pathways, and meaningful digital journeys
  • Partner closely with Brand Marketing, Creative Services, and Enrollment teams to align UX, messaging, and conversion goals across the web presence

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop web developers, UX professionals, and digital specialists - setting clear direction while actively supporting day-to-day execution
  • Build internal capacity by modeling best practices, providing technical leadership, and cultivating a culture of continuous improvement
  • Establish clear priorities, workflows, and delivery expectations that support sustainable, high-quality work at scale

Collaboration & Integration

  • Collaborate with Brand Marketing, Communications, Creative Services, Enrollment, Advancement, IT, and academic partners to align web strategy with broader marketing and engagement efforts
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and technical partner, helping campus units translate their needs into effective, on-brand web solutions
  • Coordinate with IT and security teams to ensure compliance with institutional standards, data governance policies, and regulatory requirements

Analytics, Performance & Optimization

  • Oversee web analytics, dashboards, and reporting frameworks that assess performance against institutional goals
  • Use data to drive ongoing optimization of site structure, content placement, accessibility, and technical performance
  • Ensure insights lead to action- not just documentation
